I agree with all the performance reviews so far. Glad I stayed for all of case/lang/veirs, they were awesome. St. Paul was a highlight but that came as no surprise. Caught the end of ray and it was good but a little boring. Flight of the Conchords were even more hilarious than I could have imagined. Wish I skipped ray and saw more of the arcs. My only complaint of last night was the water taxi line on the way out, over an hour!
Wow today was a huge step up from yesterday. Didn't see anything but great sets! Full review of the day in a bit but safe to say I'm a happy guy! Picked up my Newport poster today, hoe expensive are the Phil Cook ones? Really want one but also want a Newport tshirt and have to remember I only have so much room for posters. Once again, hope y'all are enjoying aftershows!
Was expecting Saturday to be the best day of the weekend, and sure enough...
Ryan Adams was the best of the weekend so far.
Kristofferson coming out during Texas Gentlemen was pretty nice, esp. with Margo Price doing the Bobby McGee cover.
Originally I wasn't going to go to Graham Nash, but it was better than expected - from what I could hear over in Beer Prison w/ bonzai.
If you want to find something worse this weekend than Raury doing karaoke to his own songs, try Patti Smith butchering Prince in her covers heavy set. Was not impressed with her.
I left Del and Dawg to see FJM lose his shit, and it didn't happen. I think I was more hoping for a potential meltdown than his actual music though.

So for my day:
Rolled in and thought check out Banditos, but that plan supposedly got scrapped early. Saw Shovel & Rope playing with Lucous on Museum Stage but people were being assholes.
Went to Rayland Baxter instead, immediate curethane for asshole vibe. So good and so honest.
My whole schedule got f'd by Miss Ruby Amanfu, gosh darn that voicertain, I could listen to her sing forever. One by one and not dark yet. AMAZING
Thenew a little John Moreland who was as awesome as he was on Tuesday in Burgh.
Cut out to see Margo, who I've missed twice. Sheven killed it. Paper Cowboy was so cool.
Rolled into back of Nathaniel Rateliff, who is always great, then set up for RA w/ StringDusters. Gawddamn that was an awesome set. Tbc
Texas Gentlemen - was enjoying them and then those couple songs with Kristofferson were fantastic. Especially closing with Bobby McGee with Margo Price, as others mentioned. Great replacement for Songhoy Blues even though I'm still bummed they had to cancel.
Margo Price - Didn't regret choosing her over Rateliff (though I'm sure he was great) because she fucking killed it. Glad I finally got to see her because the last time I saw her was performing with an old band of hers opening for the Wild Feathers a couple years ago. Really happy for her for her success and she definitely showed how she earned it.
Lady Lamb - Loved what I saw of her set. If any of you saw a redhead with a manbun singing along to every word, that was me. Happy this was the first festival I've seen her play and I hope she's back soon and keeps getting bigger and better. Wish I'd been able to get a nicer spot and stay for her whole set but Ryan Adams was calling
Ryan Adams - Loved this set. The rearrangements of the songs were great, opening with Slayer was great, and his comedy was some of the best I've heard from him. "Frightened and Rabid" goes in the list of classic RA improvs and it was just an all around great time.
Graham Nash - Enjoyed this although I was starting to feel a little exhausted. Nice set to sit down and just relax and hear some classic songs. His voice is still in fantastic shape, and he had some nice little stories and bits of banter.
Father John Misty - Top set of the weekend so far. I was worried about how entertaining he'd be solo, plus coming off of yesterday, but wow he killed it, both musically and everything he had to say. I thought while attending yesterday's show would definitely have been a bummer, his explanation for it seemed pretty sincere. His thoughts on politics, current affairs, and folk music all rang very true although I think the "folk hero" he mentioned will come in the hip hop world and not in folk music. Also, that last song was incredible. Need a recording of this set.
Patti Smith - Loved this set. Not sure what you didn't like LD but I thought she was great. Loved all of the covers and originals. I missed the beginning and was just chilling but she and her band owned that stage. A real living legend doing what she does best.
I was not impressed by Patti either, never a fan of someone playing a large amount of covers. Especially when you are supposed to be a storied musician...

We made it to the fort a little later than we wanted to yesterday. We ended up checking out Squarespace for a little while and writing about songs that mean a lot to us.
We then settled in at the Quad stage for the Texas Gentlemen. It was awesome to see Kris Kristofferson take the stage.
We left that set early to try to see Radical Face at Squarespace but the line there was so long we realized we wouldn't get in.
We decided to head over to the Fort Stage early to get a good spot for Nathaniel Rateliff and grab a bite to eat. We caught three Amy Helm songs and she sounded fantastic.
Rateliff was playing all of the same songs as last year. His set was one of my favorites last year but didn't stand out much for me this year. Also the people around us were very "festival crowd" type people who were quite insufferable so this may have added to my malaise. I would still love to see Rateliff perform solo at the Festival.
We left his set to catch some of Lady Lamb but we couldn't find a good place to stand and we're getting pretty frustrated so we went to the Quad early so that we could get perfect seats for Graham Nash and Father John Misty which were our two can't miss sets of the day.
We found great seats right away up front as Margo Price was finishing up. We got to hear all of Frightened Rabbit. They ended with the only song of theirs I knew. Overall they sounded good but not really my style.
Graham Nash played a fantastic set. I was really excited to see my first set by somebody who played at Woodstock. He mixed in a couple new songs but it was surprisingly loaded with old songs which I wasn't expecting. He also ended his set after his encore by saying, "We'll see you next year!" He seemed pretty definitive and couldn't hide his smile. I'm already starting to wonder who he means by "We'll".
Father John Misty played my favorite set of the day... He had also played my favorite set of the festival in 2013 which was perhaps my favorite set from the festival today. As soon as he took the stage immediately spouting off "...And another thing!", I knew he was going to deliver the prose comedy act stage banter between songs that I have come to love from him. He spoke eloquently about his experience at the festival he was at the day before and the current state of affairs of the country. He poked fun of his fellow performers mostly Ryan Adams and Graham Nash this time. The audience was eating it up and I saw Jay Sweet really enjoying a good chunk of his performance from backstage. The set list was also wonderful... mixing some old, new, and so new that it seemed extemporaneous.
I can't wait to get out there and do it all again today!
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Julien Baker was phenomenal. Multiple standing ovations. Couldn't even get "thank you" out of her mouth without choking up at the end and then literally ran off stage.
One of the few sets that gave me chills this weekend and I got them multiple times during her!
I'll make this one quick, Glen Hansard, Middle Brother, Phil Cook, and Alabama Shakes were all fantastic today. Caught the first two songs of Edward Sharpe, luckily they were probably the two I most wanted to hear, I just wish they didn't start 20 minutes late because they were really on and the crowd was great. Was wandering between sets early in the day and everything I caught was pretty enjoyable (Berklee Choir, Kyle Craft, The Oh Hellos). Wish I'd been able to catch Julien Baker and Elvis Costello. Also, does anyone know where they were selling Phil Cook's posters? He mentioned them, but they weren't at the artist merch tent. I'm hoping he'll put some online or something
Was at the Quad for much of the day. If it for the EZ-up issues at Fort, probably would have been a straight 4-5 hours up there.
Julien Baker isn't normally my cup of tea, but she had something good going on today.
Can never go wrong with Prez Hall. Middle Brother was enjoyable. Went back for Phil Cook and that was another solid set, though as an agnostic the gospel stuff doesn't do it for me. Brian Fallon is typically good, and wish he had a different time slot/stage so I could see his full set. Shakes were good, wish they played a couple more songs.
The EZ-up rules are bullshit, and I predict it not being fun next year.

After yesterday was a bit lackluster for the most part, I believe today is the best day I've ever had at the fort.
I started with The Oh Hellos. I made it through four songs before heading over to get a seat for Son Little. I was not too familiar with them but my girlfriend wanted to see them so we stopped by and holy cow. That was a tough set to leave. The energy that they displayed on stage was amazing.
We then went over to see Son Little which was one my most anticipated sets of the weekend. The first couple songs were slow burners so I was a little worried that I had made a terrible decision to leave The Oh Hellos but once his band joined him on stage it was like everything changed. The instrumentation, singing, and stage banter were all great.
After this we grabbed some food and listened to Glen Hansard from the shade tent. We weren't planning on seeing this set but he sounded great. We wanted to get a good spot for Middle Brother so we watched him perform The Auld Triangle from up close and I was on the verge of tears. That single song may have been the best of the weekend.
Middle Brother killed it through five songs before I had to leave. I noticed they were playing the album in order and am curious what else they played (Any surprises, new material?).
We left Middle Brother to get a good seat for Phil Cook for which was a bit of a let down. We had really been hyping this set up in our heads but it was a little slow. The Blind Boys of Alabama sounded phenomenal however and 1922 was excellent although I wish he hadn't opened with it.
Edward Sharpe was really making me angry by hitting the stage a half hour late but it was well worth it. This set was easily the best of the year. I'm a sucker for crowd interaction and this was some of the most intense and innovative crowd interaction I've ever seen. I saw Alex on the street tonight and thanked him and his band for this performance and they seemed genuinely happy to receive the praise.
I wanted to leave early to catch Alabama Shakes but the Edward Sharpe set went 20 minutes over and I couldn't will myself to leave so I did not get anywhere near the stage for Alabama Shakes. They sounded great from afar and I got to hear a lot of my favorite songs by them.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
The crowd for Edward Sharpe was the largest I've seen on the Quad, that I can remember. It was packed over there.
Saturday was probably the hottest day I remember, in the six years I been to NFF. It was just rough. At least it didn't rain down there during the shows.
Got to see Jcrus for a few minutes Friday and Potato Trooper briefly tonight. It's kind of interesting how people who post a lot in this thread don't really spend much time with QC folks.

Since I was a newbie, I didn't want to overstay my welcome
The Quack Club delegation has one near the Fort and Quad stages. The Quad, we were usually over by the entrance to Beer Prison to the right. The Fort, the first two days we were between the back shade tent and the Prius tent. Yesterday we were told we couldn't set up there and had to move - so we were up against the bay out past the family tent.

I was satisfied with my only late night - Saturday. Got Vasquez killing it on 3 songs and Ruby Amanfu getting the most cohesive singalong going with Zombie by the Cranberries. I think Sunday they always really make it special but I was glad to see the sets I did. Awesome time.

I really, really loved the Glen Hansard set and I was just lukewarm/on the fence about seeing him. His whole set made me happy. Great show, and the Auld Triangle gave me chills. The random Irish guy he met and invited up to sing who was awesome? So good.

Glen Hansard. The perfect set by one of my favorite singers (standing in the front row at the best festival in the country). I was nearly moved to tears during The Auld Triangle.
Glen Hansard is one of my favorite shows ever! He's probably the artist I have seen most overall and one of the few that have made me sob like a fool! <3
