Andra Day might have been the best set of the weekend, and that's saying something with the set Radiohead played last night. She is absolutely amazing. She should be a headliner some day.
Is this being live streamed this weekend? I can't find anything.
Red Bull didn't have it on the app this weekend. I was about III Points who had Method Man and Redman and Thievery Corporation up tonight, but they don't look to have anything either.
Also, LL Cool J bringing that little girl on stage and giving her his chain and telling her she could accomplish anything and was the future was pretty fuckin much the raddest thing i've ever seen at a show, next to the time i looked over and saw Owen Wilson scream his heart out along with Rick Springfield's "Jesse's Girl" at the Sound City Players show at SXSW 2013.
People around me didn't get him at all, but Flying Lotus's troll job was ace. Pretty great set too.
Always forget how good everything associated with Brainfeeder is. About to go on a Flying Lotus binge I think
What did he do?
He was trashed. It was his birthday and he was drinking patron on stage the whole show. Told everyone they were just there to see Radiohead and then made fun of everyone who was Asian or had a beard. But he said it was ok. Bc he's Asian and has a beard. It was hilarious. But also a trainwreck. But was awesome.
Yeah FlyLo was torched and it was amazing to watch. I saw some losers on Reddit were really mad at him about 'not playing full songs and talking about Radiohead the whole time' and even calling him names - but those guys are fucking wimps with no sense of humor.
FlyLo was just having fun on his birthday and he was right, most people were there to see Radiohead - including him, they're his favorite band and he's buddies with Thom. Plus, as expected, the times lot and stage setting they had him at was NOT fitting for his usual set - the sunset was facing right on him, so the screens were faded, and his triply weird visuals were lacking the awesome effect they would have at night time.
So why not mess around and troll the crowd, make fun of bearded white folk (of which I am one), bringing Thundercat out to drink, and calling for a meteor apocalypse because of our election choices. It was a unique show I won't forget, and that's all I hope for. Glad I saw it before one of the greatest bands ever.
Speaking of memorable sets, that was Conor Oberst for Day 2. That guy was on fire with anger towards the festival, it was glorious to watch. If you know him, you know he's not the most chipper fella to begin with, but he was legit pissed to another level.
Firstly, as my lady pointed out on the first song, you couldn't hear the violinist at all. The lead guitar and bass were seemed kind of low, and the keyboard was feedbacking so bad and regularly the keyboardist was wincing. Conor called out three separate stage crew members and chastised them personally FIVE times throughout the show.
The catalyst of his fury was definitely the Cirrus Logic stage across the park. Double Door Cinema Crew was the enemy for Conor, 'throwing so much shade', as the stoned lollipop-licking gent to the right of me said. He called them a 'Verizon commercial' two times and a "Kroger commercial. I love Kroger, it's where I get all my pharmaceutical needs".
The sarcastic condescension was thicker than fog, even towards the crowd. When he went up to play his piano he explained 'this is a piano, it might look familiar to a keyboard, but it's actually more complicated, you can't press buttons to play entire songs'. Then later he told people to look something up at their local library. 'Oh wait, they don't exist anymore, you'll have to just pull out your phones'. And when mentioning he had a new record releasing next Friday, 'a record is round disc that plays music, much bigger than a thumbdrive, unfortunately you can't fit a record in your pocket no matter how hard I have tried.'
It was so uncomfortable for some people, they were not amused and would end up lleaving. I was bathing in the awkward. With 10 minutes left, he called out what looked like the stage manager and gestured toward the Two Window Film Fest stage, and looked like he was wanting to wrap up early. He ended up saying 'I was going to play you all a quiet super-sensitive song that you all would love but I'm going to just play two louder songs'.
Which honestly was for the better. This was evidence towards a performer's inherent sense of competition, and how it pushes them to create more powerful art. I had seen him twice before (one Mystic Valley, one Bright Eyes), and each venue different, each show different, but this was a real unique ride.
Oh, i haven't shared the worst it got yet. Towards the end of the set, some guy near the front of the stage held up a sex doll (how this guy got here I do not know), but Conor noticed. Boy did he ever. 'Yeah you're real cool, why don't you go ahead and touch it's pussy because that's the closest you'll ever get. It's going to be really funny later when you realize how much of a dipshit you are.'
Never change Conor. You've been the same since you were a teen, why bother switching it up now!

Did you guys see the person on Reddit who was disappointed that Kendrick kept bringing up racism? Like dude... Is there a song on TPAB that doesn't bring up race?

I don't remember him saying anything that wasn't a lyric to a song but I guess he was offended by the very "blackness" of the show. What a dupe.
