Wow. That is pretty damn lame. And that's coming from a fan of this year's line-up. I honestly think they've done a good job of non-recycling this year. Avett Brothers being the glaring exception.

About a fifth of the lineup is recylced. Avetts, Alabama Shakes, Local Natives, Baauer, Gary Clark Jr., Dr. Dog, Moon Taxi, Washed Out, Heartless Bastards(I think), Sarah Jarosz, and to a lesser extent The Arcs which I know isn't a rehash but still.

I don't think that 1/5th of the lineup being recycled is that bad, but maybe I'm in the minority. The Arcs don't count. Of those other 10 acts, I've only seen 3 and that's including the Alabama Shakes for their first cd which I barely watched. So most of those are like new to me.
Besides, festivals need acts that you don't care about to play during the acts that you do. And Forecastle definitely exists in the Bonnaroo thought process of bringing back old favorites as they grow. Sometimes, that is extremely cool. Sometimes its kinda lame.
I truly believe that if Avett Brothers and/or Alabama Shakes were replaced on this line-up with more exciting artists, this would be considered one of the best mid-tier fests in the country. The undercard is really great for my personal tastes. Its a shame that the Local Natives couldn't be a more exciting band. I haven't seen them and there's a decent chance they won't make the cut again this year. But Forecastle has rebounded substantially from last year in my opinion, even if it still isn't as good as it was 2012-2014

I'm just a complainer. I go back every year because I live here and the first price tier can't be beat. Not to mention I have a great time every single day I'm there. I just prefer they book bands I like or bands that wfpk don't book 10 times a year. Mostly I just like to complain but I have been every year since Cherokee park and probably will be every other year barring untold curcumstances.

I'm essentially in the same boat. I wish they would get weirder. The Avett Brothers should be Sufjan Stevens. Alabama Shakes should be Tame Impala. Local Natives should be Animal Collective. etc. I think Forecastle doesn't trust Louisville to go to a fest like that, but I believe they totally would. There definitely is a bit too much folk/soft rock. But I might be numb to that after going to Bonnaroo for years. Kentucky/Tennessee is going to have way too much folk/bluegrass/americana and there's nothing I can do about it. But that's my one complaint and it extends beyond Forecastle.
Like you said, its close, cheap and fun. Hard not to go.
Very Jealous they got Local Natives this year, if you have never seen them live it's pretty incredible. Even in a festival setting they are hypnotically good.
I don't want to get an instagram, but low key, hook a brotha up. We're practically best friends at this point. It's time to start pulling your share in this friendship.
This is now back on the radar if I can talk the girlfriend into letting me go solo\with friends, we can find someone to come and watch the new baby during the day or we figure out some sort of plan. Ticket are going for $120 at some places. That's hard to pass up.
I am going to Sloss Fest and there is a bunch of crossover with Forecastle. Pretty stoked about the lineup. Really liking Glass Animals and I love DCFC. Also Ben Harper and The Arcs should be really good. I am just glad we did not get Alabama Shakes. They suck live. Boring does not even begin to describe it. No way in hell they should ever be a headliner unless they are just ready for everybody to go to sleep.

Alabama Shakes= Musical Narcolepsy
Alabama Shakes is like that one friend we all have or have had...you know the one that people either really like alot, or can't stand, depending on the mood and personality of the person who is judging. I personally love the Shakes, but I agree they are far from a high energy show. To me, the fireworks come from Brittney's voice in the grooves the band put down, especially with stuff off the new album. However, if you're not a fan of her voice, then I see where it could be less than appealing.
Barry Manilow and a John Denver Hologram would get the blood flowing more than getting Shaked. I know they are critically acclaimed, but so was the movie Birdman and it sucked donkey balls.

To take a page out of Mr. Happy Gilmore's playbook...I take it you know exactly how bad sucking donkey balls can be, thus you draw the comparison?

Schedule is great for me except for Big Gigantic/Sylvan Esso/All Them Witches. That conflict blows. The wife wants to see Sylvan Esso, the rest of our group will be at Big Gigantic and if All Them Witches were any earlier in the day it would win most conflicts. But oh well.

i know i've passed up some chances on here to get tickets, but if anybody is looking to sell some tickets, or knows somebody who is, I'd be much obliged. preferably just GA weekend pass. live in Louisville
Officially hitting up Forecastle this year... any advice on their pit situation? Does it exist? Does it work similar to Bonnaroo?
Theres no pit at Forecastle but you can get within 20 people of the stage for all but the most popular shows on the main stage just by walking up 5 min before it starts. If its someone you really want to see, just one show early should get you very close. I was 6 people back from jack white in 2014 just by sitting through band of horses.
Forecastle's biggest strength is managable crowds. Have fun! I think it'll be a great year.
