really? what more could this demographic possibly want, other than SCI and Panic?
phish and ween are my two favorite bands, and 8/27 is my birthday. 12 hour drive. makes me think.
A lot of the comments I've seen on FB are the typical back and forth about WSP vs Phish. Same dumb shiz.
Man that has been going on since 1995 when Jerry died, and everyone chose a new side it has always been a sharks v jets situation. Since Phish tour got me closer to home, and I was living out of a van with 4 others selling well lets just say "veggie burritos" at the time that is the direction I went in.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.
They moved the dates specifically for phish to play. Might not be a permanent change.
They say right in their release that it will be staying at that weekend "LOCKN' 2016 is moving to the last weekend of August, 8/25 – 8/28. The festival will take place on this same weekend, hopefully for many years to come." and gives a list of reasons why. I doubt it changes unless another big scheduling conflict comes up.
Great. Now it will even be hotter than in the years past.
I just read the email from Lockn and now I'm not nearly as confident in SCI or Panic adds...
Why's that?
...slots...Phish is playing 2 sets on Fri&Sun. MMJ is headlining either Thurs or Sat, and Ween may or may not be headlining 1 of those days. JRAD has 2 of the late nights which indicates it's not a 'headliner' type band slot. SCI nor WP are playing before MMJ or Ween, and I think it's highly unlikely they would play before Phish...and if phis goes on at say 8:00, you'd be talking about them going on at around 4:30 because there's zero chance they would play without 2 sets in this scenario. Also, Ween is playing before Phish on one of the nights. So, at best, there appears to be only one possible slot on Thurs or Sat that would be open.
Does anybody know why they've made it earlier? New it's just before Burning Man and I wonder if that will impact ticket sales. Don't get me wrong, when I was there in 2014 the most awful camping neighbors in my life has just come from Burning Man and I will not be the least bit disappointed if this keeps them away.
Also PLEASE bring SCI back. They were practically the house band two years ago!

They moved it for Phish scheduling but also going forward because of conflicts with other events in the area during their original dates (NASCAR race and some other things).

Spun out/fried wooks wearing goggles that wouldn't share their artisnal cheeses. Kept mumbling about "Babylon" at Karbur2 as well.

There were three of them, a couple and a friend and they had been using everything in the world since being at Burning Man including coke and meth. Fist fights, a knife was pulled and the girl was a day away from a psychotic break. When we tried to inform "security" of the situation we were told "it's not our job to try to prevent anything". The friend left and we got the joy of listening to the couple fight for two more days. Not the vibe I was hoping for.

Haha. Talk about Fear And Loathing in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I went the first year and remember as I was packing up to leave a group had stolen a golf cart and was cruising the camp grounds and ran over one of the many guys scattered around the area who had been selling nitrous balloons all weekend. They had to have seen him. It was like a coordinated attack. They drove off and left the guy writhing on the ground in pain until one of the other balloon handlers walked over and helped him up.

Jumped on my ticket today! Can't wait to return after a one year absence. By the way, if you hear someone walking around down there slinging "Heady red dirt" it's probably me.

Yeah it sucked. The shame is that everyone else we know that has gone to Lockn has had the most awesome time. That's why I'm seriously thinking about going again, seriously PHISH!

..."space balls"
And there is a story behind why my group will be yelling that: Two years ago a volunteer parked our car on what was literally a hill of red clay, a hill completely devoid of grass. We protested, but ended up there anywhere. What do you know but a day in our tents, cars, clothes, everything was covered in red dust. We tried to make the most of it by facetiously yelling "Heady red dirt" to all the passersby. It eventually rained that weekend and all the "red dirt" turned to mud. The bottom of my tent is forever stained from that mud. Still, we had a heck of a time! I just hope that hillside is now covered in grass and not bare earth.
This can be an enjoyable little festival. I went two years ago and man it was perfect. Especially for just the wife an I. Not too big, the walks aren't too bad (forest stage the only real walk) Last year was a disaster, but the weather nearly screwing everyone out of 2 days of music kinda set it in a negative direction. The sets were outstanding. Camping was shit and the main stage walk was much longer.
One of Phish's Friday sets is likely to be announced to be some collaboration/celebration thing (a Bowie tribute, perhaps) so that will be interesting. panic or cheese could also be brought in for something along those lines, but it won't hurt my feelings of lockn takes a year off from both of them.
Looking forward to this year. Haven't seen phish at a festival (well, jazz fest but not the same) or so I'm looking forward to those sets and between okee, roo, and lockn I am seeing more Ween than I expected (heheh)
Solid so far. Just what I expected from Lockn. Logical progression. I have faith in the additions. I feel like they made some pretty big names (santana) in the past two years.
How big are the car camping sites? About the same as Roo the last few years?
Didn't go last year, but I did two years ago....it was comparable to Roo, maybe even a little less room. That was one of the few complaints I had from the festival that year, but we did arrive fairly late on Thursday. That may have been the reason why we didn't have much room.

So maybe two car passes. Ugh..miss camping being included at every fest I went to!
We had no one directing us to our campsite last year. So we just cruised to the front, stayed out of the exit lane and set up camp. They better be better prepared logistically this year cause it's gonna get nuts.

When did you get there last year? Friday was a disaster. I blame the weather, of course, but it was the worst entry into a festival I've ever seen.

I couldn't agree more with your preparation remark. With Phish and the move to August, they could have their biggest crowd ever. I'm not wanting to spend hour upon hour stuck in that field waiting to get in. ...

I really wanna do this! Love all 3 headliners. Charles Bradley and White Denim are great too. Not hugely familiar with the rest of the undercard, but I'm sure it will be great.
