Had a blast yesterday. Few thoughts:
- MMJ was on it, fantastic show. Loved the covers, but my favorite part was the start and finish. Opening with Victory Dance set the tone for the evening and One Big Holiday gave everybody the opportunity to let loose at the end. - Thoroughly enjoyed Phil & Friends yesterday. The Infamous Stringdusters came in nicely, and i enjoyed hearing some classic Dead hits. The set was shorter than expected but Hard Working Americans went longer than they were suppose to go. - The festival as a whole has made improvements since I last attended in 2014. I wasn't in the campgrounds this weekend and was only around on Saturday, but the cell service around the venue was solid. I remember in 2014 it was nearly impossible to send a text or make a phone call. The bathroom and water station situation had improved as well. - My one complaint would be the dead time on a few occasions when trying to get the stage switched and ready. When the crowd is expecting an act to come on within 5 minutes of a show ending, it can be a buzzkill having to wait over 20 minutes.
What a weekend! Can't say I've ever been to a festival anything remotely like Lockn. A totally unique, very chilled-out and, obviously, UBER JAMMY festival. They've got something special going down in Arrington.
My Morning Jacket stole the weekend, my heart, and possibly sole possession atop the list of best shows I've ever seen. But there were really no weak links all weekend. Neal Casal should win hardest working American award, for killing it with at least six different acts over three days. His quasi-Dead cover band, Circles Around The Sun was so, so cool.
Ween was great and looked to be having the time of their lives up there, playing a surprisingly accessible set on Friday.
I went into the first Phish show completely blind -- didn't know a damn thing by them. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself dancing my ass off for most of their set.
The turntable stage worked really well. The night shows weren't exactly "Lockn", but it was wild to see the earlier bands twist around at the conclusion of their set and literally 45 seconds later the next band tears right into it.
Also, Garcia's Forest is one of the coolest things I've ever seen at a festival. Don't know why more festivals don't just carve out a massive space in a forest for people to chill in and save themselves from the brutal sun. The fact that it blasts sweet Jerry deep cuts all day and night is bonus.
Looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Lockn. I'll be back!

The forest part you mentioned is the sole reason I have chosen to go to Electric Forest over the past few years. Fests without good shade are so exhausting and honestly dangerous. Having a forest to enter and get out of the sun is soooooooooooooo clutch and makes my weekend so much more enjoyable. I agree that it's surprising more fests (especially newer) haven't looked into this option more. Instead we get fests like Imagine that set up in a raceway and then provide zero shade or water (in camping at least).
It was a real good time. Much younger crowd than the last 2 years I've gone. I agree that MMJ crushed it, like I knew they would. I had more fun at the Phish Friday night show, but that Possum last night was probably one of the best I've ever seen.
Logistically speaking, I'm a bit disappointed that they have cut back on areas for GA patrons to go chill in the venue. Seems like they're pushing the VIP experience hard. But overall I really can't complain. There were more bathrooms and water and ice in the campgrounds and the bathrooms were even under tents. The portapotties were almost always clean, even this morning it wasn't bad. The only thing that I hated this year was there was soooooo much nitrous. We had a tank constantly parked a few campsites away every night. For all the cop patrols in the campgrounds during the day, they sure blew it at night. I would have loved to watch those assholes get arrested especially the night they were constantly setting off the car alarm over and over and over. I was seriously ready to throw down with them. Fuck those guys.
Had an awesome time this year, much easier getting is this year (1 hour 15 minutes vs. 8 hours). Weather was a bit on the hot side compared to last year, but that was to be expected.
Highlights: Godboner on Thursday, loved that version of "The Stranger". Phish doing the a Capella "Space Oddity". That entire Saturday evening slot, Hard Working Americans > Phil Lesh & Friends > Tedeschi Trucks Band > My Morning Jacket > Lettuce is one of the greatest stretches of music I've ever seen. All those singalongs from the Wailers, they've got a great front man. Keller Williams playing "Best Feeling" with Twiddle, i love that song.
I'm glad Charles Bradley was able to make it, he had been sick for a while and had to cancel a bunch of dates, including other festivals. He put on a great show at Bonnaroo this year, was glad to see another awesome show at Lockn.
Bathroom situation has improved, they had more urinals in the main stage area, which was nice.
I will say they need to work on the lighting situation, I kept tripping on stuff in the campgrounds trying to find my campsite at night. They had a lot of lights in the campground that just didn't work. Also need more water stations in the campgrounds.
Turntable stage was cool, hope they keep it. Phish had a great lighting setup.
Lockn was sort of my second chance with Phish. Saw them at Bonnaroo 2012 and while I enjoyed the show, I wasn't big into jambands at the time and didn't enjoy it then as much as I did this past weekend. Phish was awesome, and I'm going to make every attempt to see them again before another four years pass.
As amazing as Phish, Phil, Umphrey's, and everyone else was, My Morning Jacket was absolutely the best show on the farm this year. I loved that "Touch me part 2" transition into "Rebel Rebel". It was great seeing Jacket get the headlining spot they so rightfully deserve.
All in all, very satisfied, can't wait to go back next year. A buddy already wants to go with me, and my cousin might go too, here's hoping
Super shocking to all of you I am sure, My Morning Jacket was my favorite set. I loved all the Phish sets (but I only have a handful of shows to compare them to), Tedeschi Trucks, Moon Taxi and Phil (round 1) were my other favorite sets and also killed it. There was too much dead time in Phil's set, but I loved the songs that they played and I loved the Stringdusters with him.
The interlocking sets were sometimes seamless, sometimes not even close to interlocking, but overall I enjoyed the rotating stage.
I didn't eat a lot (combination of my usual MO at festivals and the late night meals at VIP), but the food options were pretty on point.
Thanks to Kevin (I didn't realize he deleted his account on here again?), I got a free VIP upgrade. Absurdly expensive ($999+fees) if I had paid, but pretty worth it. The VIP pit was pretty solid (but like usual when I do VIP at a festival, I spend too much time in GA), a decent amount of free, decent food, free water and soft drinks throughout the day, great campsites, trailer bathrooms and trailer showers. Also, a lot of helpful employees in the lounge and it was nice to have a devoted concierge for questions and help. The only complaint was that somehow we ended up locked in the holding field with everyone else (parking volunteers/staff said that is where we should be) for a few hours while we waited for will call to open and then waited to be let out. Even though there was not only a will call parking lot to wait in before going to the separate VIP entrance, but when we went in, we saw that there was actually a VIP box office at the VIP gate. It wasn't the end of the world, but we definitely wasted a few hours there that we shouldn't have. (For reference, I have also done VIP at Bonnaroo and Mountain Jam)
The people were pretty awesome. Nice and easy going as a whole, plenty of dancing room- even up close, didn't seem many that were disrespectful, annoying, etc.
I got some gorgeous posters (3 of them! Why do I need 3?), but am sad that there wasn't an MMJ poster. I did get a set list though.
I am glad I got to see a bunch of Inforoo folk as well as Mountain Jam, Catskill Chill, and MMJ friends- but sad that I missed a few of you! Totally stalked carsoni4's IG page on the drive home after he happened upon my Jim post. At least, I assume that is you? I wish I saw it earlier- I would've stalked you a bit!
I would definitely go back if they had another lineup like this year's. The past few years weren't enough to get me considering to go, but MMJ and Phish was enough. I would also consider paying for VIP if coming back.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
bonzai What's your instagram account man? VIP sounds sweet!
I ended up in the "Hang" area for a bit, but still don't know exactly what it was. Was that VIP? Had some sweet art, AC bathrooms, and somehow, side-stage access. Didn't bother with it though because there was a line to get in. How does one get a Hang pass?!
Also, there are several recordings of the MMJ set floating around that confirms the set was just as amazing as I remember. Track 'em down folks!

My Instagram account is BonnieBlue3. You liked my Jim James pic from Saturday by following hashtags I presume. I recognized your name and decided to follow you. You then followed me and went through my account liking all my MMJ photos I am not super active and I sometimes go a month without even logging in. haha. It looks like that was only my third post this year.
Not 100% what the hang lounge was, but that wasn't VIP. VIP was the big white circus tent on the right. No side stage access. I know a friend that had the hang wristband- he got it from TTB. He knows tour managers and always gets show and fest passes (and usually accompanied by back stage, after parties and other perks). So like a guest pass, I guess? He managed to get into VIP with it on Saturday, but was blocked from VIP on Sunday.

Get more active on the 'gram! It's my prime source for finding fellow MMJ-following freaks!
Wish I had utilized the Hang area more now that I think about it. I'll definitely be trying to get back in there next year. Can't see myself ever missing a Lockn again if they keep knocking it out of the park with lineups like they did this year!

Really well run festival. If the weather wasn't so killer it would have been even better, but they did install some misting areas and had lots of tents up. I saw security giving out waters in the front for people to pass back.
The rotating stage was bad ass and when bands took advantage of it, it was absolutely stunning.
Still pissed about what happened with the photo pass, but I made due just fine in the long run. Would definitely consider going again line up depending of course.
