Missed the early birds and suffered a 30.00 upcharge for VIP. Thought about getting Super VIP for a minute or two before backing off. I don't need bottle service though access to the mansion would have been nice.
I know it didn't effect it a lot last year but I wonder if Okeechobee being a little more established and the weekend before pulls from this at all. The capacity for both probably makes it a non-factor but still interesting.
I know I'll probably do Okeechobee instead of Buku next year, but that still depends on the lineups. If there's nothing I love at Okeechobee then obviously I won't go. But the distance for me is basically the same for both festivals. I'd rather do a three day camping festival than a two day city festival. If I lived in New Orleans however I'd go every year no question. Buku is a pretty dope festival.

It won't. I know about 10 people from here who did both last year including one of my kids and will again in 2017. The majority of the crowd is local or Gulf Coast region. I could be convinced but I'm probably not going to Okeechobee. My main issue is will Goldenvoice turn Buku into a shitty pop fest and proving grounds for chump acts or will they keep it cool? I don't mind seeing up and coming acts that aren't shitty. It's hard to trust them after Hangout 2016.

I was actually thinking they were going to make it much more edm focused than it used to be. Last year definitely was way lighter than all previous years on alt/indie rock. This year is pivotal for me to continue going in future years.
I hear you. I'm not there yet because they have never disappointed me. I don't expect another 14 (Lotus, Conspirator, Lips, Explosions in the Sky, Beats Antique, etc.).but as long as they keep me happy, I'll go. I personally love the venue (outside of strict security at the entrances), and I never had a bad time. So it's cool with me. Goldenvoice puts on Coachella too, so they do have the money to get what they want.
I have no guesses at this point. You figure Pretty Lights and Bassnectar were most recently here so maybe it's time for Skrillex to come back? I guess if I had some legit wants, Juicy J, Tycho, Disco Biscuits, Savoy and maybe Big G.
Could maybe do this fest on Spring Break this year. What's everyones opinions on it.
It rules. Do VIP no questions asked if you're doing it and you drink. You get access to the riverboat and free premium booze on it both days (Wild Turkey 101 for the win). You also get front stage access for the Float Den and for the Main Stage at the Power Plant. You get upstairs/balcony for The Ballroom stage as well.
It's a really good time, though it's a young festival as you would expect being as EDM and rap heavy as it usually is. However, all ages will be represented. And since it moved to 18+ in 2014, there aren't as many passing out kids at their first party fest.
The lineups haven't been super consistent, but you figure EDM, Rap, Buzz Rock, some indie pop, etc. I went in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 and had a bang up time each year. But 15 and 16 doing VIP was superior for the conveniences, VIP sets, free booze and such. It's one of the better run festivals in the city, probably the best run. I hope Winter Circle (since they sold to Goldenvoice) still commandeers or orchestrates some level of the festival. It will sell out, and the cap is about 14,000. Check out some of the photos in a google image search or look at the after videos. But I credit Buku for a lot of bands I like that I first saw there or first saw something different (e.g. Primus in 3D). But here's a list of things I saw there first:
Public Enemy STS9 Big Gigantic Lotus Nas Bone Thugs N Harmony Beats Antique Explosions in the Sky Conspirator Pusha T Schoolboy Q Flyboi Keno (though I had seen him come out with Jack U a few times) Future HudMo Porter Robinson Live GRiZ Gramatik Break Science A$AP Rocky Baauer RL Grime G. Jones TV on the Radio Odesza Boosie Badazz badbadnotgood DJ Windows 98 Thomas Jack Lettuce Tyler the Creator
Rumors I have heard is that the lineup might be released as clues in its entirety and that it would be out soon. Last year they started releasing clues around the holidays.
Asked my daughter what she's hearing and all she had was that she heard TroyBoi had the date on his tour site and took it down. She said the 10th. He's playing Boulder on the 11th so it could be legit. I haven't listened to much of his shit but I know some cool people who don't hate on him at all even if they aren't giant fans.
Could be maybe Alina Baraz? If so, kind of mellow for Buku but that could be a chill earlier or later ballroom set if she plays with her band. I don't know enough about her to judge but she has a good voice.
Lineup is out next Tuesday. Hunting around the web, Jauz (Sea Squad) is on hash tag buklues. I'm not a fan though the last time I saw him was better than it should have been. Hash tag without the "s" has Young Thug. I'd give him a little bit of a shot since I guess the beef with Wayne is over or they have a truce since he's playing here. I haven't followed that in a while. I'm hearing a lot of other shit but nothing on HLs.
TroyBoi Vince Staples Young Thug Alina Baraz Jauz Big Wild 21 Savage Washed Out?
Oh and heh heh. Cards are going around the city. I got a couple of them but don't want to blow the gradual seepage of what they are doing. Ill post that stuff as it hits the web.
I'll give up one I like, Big Wild. Big Wild is always good, so that's a plus for me along with TroyBoi of the confirmed, so far
Here's the deal though. The cards I have which are not major have a back. And they all have a word search with X number of clues to the lineup. I'm old and half blind and the lighting isn't that good in my house. So I don't know if the clues pertain to other acts on the lineup, the artist on the other side, or both. I'll post the back of the Big Wild card. Also the two I looked at specifically said 3 clues and 6 clues. So maybe if it's the lineup and we get all the cards (which I don't have a connection for), it's all there??. Let me go upload that shit to tinypic.
*edit* to say it looks like the clues refer to the specific artist in a variety of ways.
Not sure. Big Wild does the remix of Say My Name, so it's probably a reference to him on the other side which was obvious ( invincible ) and a drawing of him. Whether they are planting other shit, I don't know.
Looks like Odesza is in the crossword. Do they headline?
He used to go by JBeatz so with that and the Odesza clue, I think it just confirms Big Wild. Always got to hand it to Buku regardless of what ends up on the lineup since they put shit out there for people to find.
Young Thug is out on #buklue. Here is the back of the card.
I'm told Wyclef Jean and Digits are songs of his. This says 4 clues. But I don't know enough to get the other two. Fwiw the front is the cover of his new album with him dressed in drag.
However, this card has "Feed Me" in the bottom right. Feed Me played last year, so I don't think he would be back that quick at Buku. Perhaps there was a collaboration or remix at some point?
