This is kind of what I had noted on before, many of the "indie" acts they booked just don't have much crossover appeal.
I don't know if it's just that, or if it's also that this festival has kind of hitched its identity to hip-hop (last year, at their Le Poisson Rouge after-show, Frightened Rabbit's Scott Hutchison said something along the lines of, "This is such a better way to end our tour than as one of two guitar bands at a hip-hop festival in Queens"). Indie and rock fans aren't going to turn up if you just throw them a few bones. They should've just gone all-in on the hip-hop side of things and not tried to diversify unless they were going to have a real go of it.

These lineups need a deeper/more unique undercards imo. So many of these acts have either toured heavily/or are just irrelevant. Either way the model of relying so heavily on a big name won't work in such a homogenized market.
It probably would have sold better if they just went all in on hip-hop. Throwing in an act like two door cinema club (who have been everywhere since 2011), doesn't do much in terms of recruiting the indie crowd. Gorillaz day will be busy I would imagine though.
Idk Jones. Not all the bands are stuff I regularly listen to but Sunday has a diverse mix of acts. I would have went if I was there.
I'd add that they kind of did go all in on hip hop. If you have Jay-Z, Future, Gorillaz, Nas, Big Boi, LL, Ghostface, Bronson, etc., that's kind of badass. With the rock and buzz and Bassnectar on top of all that, I could get 3 crazy ass days.

Blood Orange was criminally underattended. An hour of grooving to that mans music is never not perfect. Really excited to hear what he has in store for us after dropping new shit last night.
But Jay. Holy shit. He's as good as I've ever seen him. Maybe 4:44 really reinvigorated the guy. Transitioned seemlessly from classic to classic tonight; what an epic set. "I Just Wanna Love U" right into "Big Pimpin" and "Where I'm From" right into "Marcy Me" are you shittingggg me. Didn't expect him to kick things off with "Run This Town," and loved that he did "No Church." "Bam" with Jr Gong rang the fuck off. "Empire State" was so played out when it first dropped but that shit was a moment tonight. Ending with "Young Forever" was exactly what I was looking for. Seemed like he leaned more toward his past albums and I fucked with all of it. He hasn't lost a step at all

I will send you $2.
How long of a set are the gorillaz getting? 715 is early enough for me to watch n then go out tonight. ACL only giving them 75 minutes is terrible and really hope it doesn't downplay the show entirely.

You can't go out at 9:00? I know the bars close at 2 and last call is in the 1's (which sucks dog dix) but that should give you ample time. Just the same, if you're on Tidal's stream site, they have each and every set from yesterday clickable and watchable. Assuming they will do that for tomorrow, you can watch it once it's done and once they have the set up individually. Check it out:

Quick Thoughts
Way different crowd today. A lot older than friday and more laid back.
Got there as Big Boi was going off. Set was fun but it was so hot out. Good mix of Outkast material.
LL Cool J was incredible. I planned on seeing half of him and half of Badu. But I couldnt pull myself away. Q Tip came out and did Award Tour and Vivrant Thing with him. Then DMC came out and played Its Tricky and a few other Run DMC tracks. Then he brought out members of the Furious Five. It was so fun.
After we got food and saw A-Trak from the VIP pit. It was really cheesy. We had fun dancing like morons though.
Saw Big Gigantic after. We were dead center jumping around having a good time. If youve seen Big G once you have seen them 20 times, still fun though.
Apparently Busta Rhymes came out during Tory Lanez. I was at Big G and missed out. Heard it was cool though.
TV On The Radio were great and had so much energy. We left after they played Wolf Like Me though. Really wanted to have a great spot for Gorillaz.
Gorillaz. Damn. So glad I got the chance to see them twice on this run. Hope its not another 7 years before they come around again.

Holy damn, this weekend though. Front row for literally every artist but 21 Savage and Flatbush. Run the Jewels were incredible (El-P said he f**king loved me), being 5 feet from Jay was unreal. Gorillaz though, wtf. That set was amazing in so many ways. And all the surprise guests from Damien Marley and Tribe to Nicki Minaj and Mos Def. I've been to a ton of festivals, but this one was far and beyond my favorite. And still one more day, featuring my 2nd favorite rapper of all time!
