Day 2 was my Day 1, and my first time at this festival. It was a really great day. I was concerned the crowd would be GovBall-young, but I was pleasantly surprised that it skewed a little bit older. The parking lot of it all is a bit of a bummer compared to Randall's Island grass, and the lack of any sort of shade was a drag (could've used some of those cabanas/misting stations they had at Panorama a couple years ago). But, man, the music. Started off with Jacob Banks, then caught a fun set from Flatbush Zombies. Antibalas was a great, chill, mid-afternoon set, and while I'm bummed the crowd was a little sparse, it was nice to get on the rail for once.
LL Cool J was so much better than I expected; not that I didn't expect to have a good time, but that show was dope as hell. I was so bummed that Tribe didn't get to "Award Tour" when I saw them at Panorama, so to get to see them do it in this setting was a real treat. And then it just kept going from there. Following that with De La Soul was a great one-two punch of old-school hip-hop.
TV on the Radio was my main reason for coming to the festival yesterday, and they delivered like crazy. I've seen them twice, now (last time at GovBall '14), and both were just killer sets.
I don't even know what to say about Gorillaz. The only gripe I have is that "19-2000" didn't end up in the set. Beyond that, mind = blown.
And then, my wife and I got home from the festival and found our apartment door had been kicked in. Good times.

Damn. Hope its not too serious and they didnt completely rob you.
Fridays crowd was Gov Ball young. Yesterday the crowd was way older. I think today might go back to young on account of RHCP.
Agreed on the location. Wish this fest could either get into Corona Park proper or be moved to Randalls.
Having been to all 3; this fest was way better than Gov Ball or Pano. Only thing holding it back is the setting. Need some grass.
Californication and by the way IS the garbage newer stuff
Nonsense! RHCP albums ranked (worst to best): selt-titled, Freaky Styley, Uplift Mofo Party Plan, I'm With You, One Hot Minute, The Getaway, Stadium Arcadium, Mother's Milk, By The Way, Californication, Blood Sugar Sex Magik
WTF? Best to worst: Mother's Milk, BSSM, One Hot Minute, Freaky Styley, Uplift Mofo Party Plan, 1st Album, Californication, the rest...
I want to do a NY fest and this seems to peak my interest the most. I'm also assuming, weather wise, it's the coolest?
Its actually been the hottest of the three during the day. Both Gov Ball and Pano got lucky and happened on weekends when it was supposed to rain this year. So both were breezy with overcast in the mid 70s the entire time. Def not normal though. Last year Pano happened during a heatwave and was disgustingly/dangerously hot.
The days are also shorter at this because of the time of year. I only was in the sun for about 3 hours yesterday. And the heat was only really annoying enough to bring down my enjoyment of Big Boi's set. Everything after that it didnt really feel like a big factor.
These are today's main stream schedules all in EDT. Kind of tripping that Meadows has Ghostface after Action Bronson. I guess they called their beef off?
FLOR 12.00PM - 12.30PM DREAMERS 12.45PM - 1.30PM KAMAIYAH 1.30PM - 2.15PM CRX 2.15PM - 3.00PM ST. PAUL & THE BROKEN BONES 3.00PM - 4.00PM FOSTER THE PEOPLE 4.00PM - 5.00PM BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE 5.00PM - 6.00PM RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS 8.15PM - 10.00PM
Personally I thought the gorrilaz set was too heavy with the new album.
I wish they had played Dare, Ascension, and 19-2000. Thankfully i caught the Philly show and saw them play those there. The features last night were absolutely insane though.
Yeah I felt like there were some glaring omissions, and a lot of the crowd I was around went through long periods of looking around because they didn't know the songs. Kind of killed the flow for me. Ended strong though

Sounds like you were in a bad spot. The VIP pit was going nuts for everything. Rhinestone Eyes was the high point of the set for me.

I liked the flow. Damon did the first 40 minutes or so mostly him and the band carrying it and then started with the guests. I thought it was on par with the Margate introduction show earlier this summer. Also having time to do a hour and 45 minute show allowed for a different "festival" show (though admittedly I haven't looked at the most recent setlists to see if it was just mirroring tour shows or whatever). You guys really got a treat this weekend. Almost everything I have watched looked like great fun. Despite the overdo of this side/that side, the 26-35 crowd at De La Soul was the loudest. Nice contingent of 36-45ers as well which is to be expected at that set. 2017 Meadows at Central Park or somewhere grassy (in person) would have put it up there with some of the better major festivals I've watched this year (which is about 9 or 10 and counting). Because on TV, it's one of the best or at least they're giving you most of the real shit. And there are a lot of really fn good acts.
It's been really fucking cool of Tidal to play so many sets as they happened as well. They have "rewatch previous days" of all sets streamed including the whole 1:20 Jay-Z set. The only faux pas was not getting Big Boi and Erykah Badu. I can live with that. If anyone wants to grab some of these while they're up:

I'd always expect the pits to go nuts. No one is waiting to get in the front without being a huge fan. I was at the back of VIP for a bit and then in ga for the rest and except for the earlier stuff the crowd was pretty muted. People would get excited when they recognized a guest, but didn't know the songs and pretty much resume talking until the next "hit"came on
I was thrilled to see the lead singer for savages come out, they're one of my favorite bands.. she stood on me at Meadows last year. I had no idea they did a song together..

Man go to the tidal page and watch Mike Floss's set. He's playing to absolutely no one in the beginning. I fast forward to the end and eventually like 12 people stroll up to the stage. Kudos to him for doing the whole set with enthusiasm.

I am trying to get there for St Paul. The peeps I am with are really into Foster The People so I am going to have to catch that. Nas and BSS are going to steal the fest today. Thinking Lauryn Hill is probably showing up during Nas. We obviously already know Damian Marley is around; so could be getting some Distant Relatives tracks too. But we shall see. Nas literally grew up 6 miles away from where the fest is. And it was just his Birthday a few days ago. Feel like he has to have something up his sleeve for this.

You live in Texas. Don't worry about the heat.
I can handle the heat, yes. It's more so wanting to visit somewhere when it is cooler. Growing up in Philly had me hating winter and now it's my favorite time of year.

Yeah dayfornight made for a nice change of pace. Bonnaroo is really the only festival I've had good reason to bitch about the heat. 2010 was brutal.
Meadows lineup is so fucking well done. Whoever does the scheduling I really think gets it, even if the audiences don't. BSS played at a great time, just like savages did last year, even though people didn't watch... There are always head scratchers for me, that when I pass by the set I'm like "ok, I see why they did this". Just get this thing on some fucking grass, and figure out some shade, and we're in business
Man, this was a great festival. It felt like part Rock The Bells revival (but like, competent), part indie rock assembly, largely bucking the trendy 2017 fest bookings. Obviously the headliners were more by the numbers, but pulling Jay-Z in NYC and all those guests for the Gorillaz made it special.
And speaking of guests, the special appearances at sets like LL, Broken Social Scene and Future were beyond anything I would have expected coming in. Probably topped Coachella's collaborations this year in my book.
There's definitely some logistical shit that needs to get sorted (for example, they tried to confiscate my girlfriend's extremely valid license in VIP today and were initially complete dicks about it, making me search out a cop to confirm it was legit). Like everyone, I would love some grass and shade as that blacktop is brutal in the sun, but the foundations of a stellar festival are very much present.
