Doesn’t look like the fest is ever happening again either. More details should emerge shortly.
On October 16th pass holders will get an exclusive code or whatever to purchase tickets to rescheduled shows before public on sale, which is on October 19th.
I think more festivals should be similar to what Levitation is doing next year, it might be a more sustainable model for these kind of niche festivals.
A month ago I was supposed to move to Austin for a job, and this and levitation were part of the reasons I was so excited... Now levitation is moving into the clubs and this is over... Maybe Boulder was the right move for me

I can't stand that style of"festival". Your just buying a bunch of tickets for shows the same day. And waiting in lines. And sitting inside sweaty venues

Not my favorite type either, but apparently festivals like SOS or Levitation cannot move enough tickets, even in cities like Austin, and get cancelled in the end. Yes, multi-venue festivals like Hopscotch, Big Ears, and Moogfest are not sold out most of the time (if ever), but at least they are around for the last few years.
It could be a ticket sales thing, but werent the founders of this, the other guy from Transmission (FFF), and the city in some kind of legal dispute? There's also the citizens of whatever city it's in that isn't austin who could have done something about it, thats what happened with Middleands.

SoS never had a chance when they made it a camping festival outside of the downtown area.

In an article in the Austin Chronicle, the promoters state a major financial backer got cold feet and pulled out and after the Phyre debacle artists are wanting more money up front.
Yeah I personally feel pretty bummed bout the whole thing and will just wait n see how I feel. YYY was probably the only one I'd jump on.
Also, this has me feeling we are seeing a major shift in fests. All Austin fests are struggling except ACL. Not that there isn't ticket demand, but the risk/reward and investment isn't worthwhile. Levitation and Art Outside were both crushed by weather, Euphoria was pretty empty compared to the prior year and I've heard is struggling, FFF/SOS is dead (Although FFF is still held by another be revived in theory), SXSW Music portion has been in reduction since 2014 as sponsors and the city deemed it not a worthy investment.
It's the super small fests that seem to be handling themselves because their overhead seems pretty low risk: Utopia is looking for a new home, but I believe that will conine as it has pretty cult following. Float fest sold out admits 100 degree weather. The couple folk fests in the area are doing fine as well. There is Batfest too. Lol.
