this has me feeling we are seeing a major shift in fests. All Austin fests are struggling except ACL.
Specifically smaller camping fests seem to be struggling. Or most camping fests in general have all started to disappear. I think we're down to Bonnaroo, Sasquatch, Okee, Electric Forest, and Suwanee fests...
Which sucks, because I hate city fests. I feel like I see less music and spend more money on city fests.
edit: I know I left out Coach, but I consider that more of a city fest than a camping fest since I think a majority of attendees don't stay on site.

Yeah I can agree with you. At first I wasnt too keen on the idea of a camping fest until I did Wakarusa and Utopia. I then realized I get to forget about the entire world for a few days. Although it isn't camping, Hangout has a smiliar feeling since I am on the beach which is just pure happiness for me. Waking up at home for ACL and having shit to deal with just makes it feel more of a task at times.
Utopia may be moving to the same place as FLoatfest which isn't as asthetic but will at least be a lot closer.

This is why I sold my weekend 2 ticket in 2015, didn't go Saturday and didn't make it to Zilker until like 6 or 7pm Sunday last year. Going back to your own place and waking up in your own bed really makes you not want to deal with the heat and crowdedness and traffic of standing outside in Zilker for 8+ hours. With that being said, I really missed not being there this year.
Living in NYC and going to all 3 festivals here, it really is strength sapping. I've never been as tired after a camping fest as I am after 3 days commuting to a city fest every day. Plus, it feels like less of a vacation if you end up starting from and ending up at home. When I starting doing festivals it was always camping, so when I did my first big city fest it was a but of a letdown (although it was Osheaga, so being in another country made it pretty cool). The fact is, every night you have to detach yourself from the festival mood and treck back to wherever you're crashing for the night, which is a bummer
I feel pretty confident I'm not doing the 3-day ACL again, it is so draining getting too and fro, dealing with the shitty people for miles, having to book a hotel/find a place. they will continue to consistently get some of the more unique and great bookings of the coming years, but hopefully I can keep doing solid 1-days to get a deece "floor seat" for a headliner and get 3-5 good openers.

I was really looking forward to making a camping fest this year. I'm starting to think I'll never experience one again without a return to Suwanee or a trip up to Wisconsin. I like the Eaux Claires lineups, but doubt I'd travel that far for it.
Margin Walker is announcing something tomorrow. Its probably a Jawbreaker show but people seem to be speculating that it could be a festival. Fingers crossed.

$ on it just being a Jawbreaker reunion. I can't see MW trying once again to get a fest going for a long time. Maybe a one day thing for JW similar to Levitation with 4-5 openers...

I agree that a Jawbreaker show is definitely the most likely but there is part of me that thinks it would be weird to make a teaser video for a single show even if it is Jawbreaker.

This is true, especially that it also isn't their first reunion show.
Also interesting that this is happening the day after the ACL lineup dropped. What would it have to do with Jawbreaker? I don't really know too much about their music so i don't get the reference. looked it up so nevermind on that. Could be a Jawbreaker show at Auditorium Shores with some big lineup put around it or something.
edit. also just realized it's literally Skateboarding Over Salt.... I'm hyped now for either a return to Auditorium Shores or a venue fest like LEVITATION since it appeared to have been a big success in that format. All the shows i went to were packed and pretty much everything sold out by the week of. I'm probably over thinking it completely.
