Apparently Hulaween isn't paying artists from this past year, and a cover-their-ass statement was issued. Do you really think a fest as successful as Hula wouldn't be able to manage their revenue properly?
Yeah that’s shitty. They could have reached out themselves and promised unpaid vendors they would get their money before being called out. Accounting error is one thing. Shit happens. But “a number of accounting errors led to the show going grossly over budget” is inexcusable in 2019. Heads should roll and accountants should be fired publicly else who’s going to trust them?

accountant here, allow me to assist hulaween with their budget:
expected tickets sold (sellout) * ticket price = x prior year other revenues (beer, food, vendor fees etc) adjusted for any CY price increases = y
current year budgeted revenues = x + y
current year budgeted revenues less prior year actual expenses adjusted for CY expense increases/decreases = current year budgeted gross profit.
if you aren't making a profit increase ticket prices or cut expenses.
don't get me wrong, budgeting is hard, but when you are guaranteed a sell out every year it shouldn't be hard. festivals should fail when they sell less tickets than expected, not when they sell exactly the amount of tickets expected.
hey hula holla at ya boy if you need some consulting services.
“Multiple accounting errors” means “theft” where I come from.
For sure. Doesn’t look like they increased costs majorly anywhere this year in terms of layout or bookings and certainly not to the extent that would make you bankrupt.
Velorama just bit it, which is a shame cause the lineup was fun and the idea with the bike race was interesting. Denver is now down to UMS and Arise (I guess?). So much for Denver becoming this up and coming music city

Ah yes, the success of Velorama was the true measuring point of an up and coming music city.

Velorama was stupid. I went a couple of years ago, and it was just a glorified Wilco show in an ugly location. Worst beer line I've ever seen at an event, too.

Well they lost Grandoozy, velo and Pabst in the last 2 years, but hey, at least you get to make sarcastic comments

I had to be reminded about the beer line, the credit card machines going down and modest mouse cancelling. Must have blocked it all out. The lineup last year was pretty good even with them cancelling, but having the food a mile away from the stage was annoying as fuck.
Denver has Red Rocks. Yeah it's not a festival, but look at how many bands do a little extra cause Red Rocks. Or make it the site of limited runs, such as MMJ this year.
That's crazy! They are making money and making the city a profit but they got denied their permit.
According to a release from Angelou Economics, the firm who completed an economic impact study on the 2018 Float Fest, the event generated an estimated $12.3 million for San Marcos and the surrounding region. Additionally, attendees booked an estimated 46 percent of hotel rooms in the city during the festival.
The festival also created about 119 full-time job equivalents and paid over an estimated $4.2 million to those employees, the report said. Despite these numbers and the profits for the area, the court denied the promoter's application after a nearly three and a half hour meeting.
The last line gives fest goers and organizers hope though:
Last year, Float Fest's permit was also denied, but the Guadalupe County Commissioners later voted to give it the green light after the organizer sued.
Wow. NIMBYs in full affect. The only issue I thought was parking and getting in but I figure theyd fix that with a year of thought. Sucks because that was such a successful fest and it would be interesting to see how it grew.

It’s also a complete shit show. We still have some peeps waiting for court dates in one of the rural counties the river flows through. Haha. Plus it was stupid hot and dusty. Luckily the 107 shit waited to Monday, but 103/104 and probably 125 in the sun was bad. There was some okay food, but it was very disorganized and chaotic. That was a plus and a minus. We thought they pulled a good lineup for cheap, which is why we went. Tame Impala, Bassnectar and RTJ were all memorable. Wayne, PHJB, White Denim and Bun B were all good. Snoops sound was fd so it was hard to tell with him.
