Yeah, so.
Last year they announced on January 17th.
This year, on the 23rd, they said news was coming soon. Since then, they've clearly teased Kacey Musgraves and maybe hinted at 21 Pilots. I'd say we're due for another hint today. Maybe a few next week. But letting Bunbury get out in front of them with (what I assume will be) their lackluster lineup is bold.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

Probably won't have a direct reason to come back for this anytime soon, but I was overall very impressed with this fest. We enjoyed Louisville to the fullest as well. Great town. This is the type of fest I hope survives.

So if everything people seem to think pans out we are possibly looking at the top 4 of Artic Monkeys/Kacey Musgraves/21 Pilots/ Big Gigantic with also Run the Jewels possibly hinted at.

Idk if specifically showing pictures of an artist who played is a hint that they're playing again...
That's just filling social media when you have no other content.

I agree but I got nothing else to really go on right now. The longer they go though the worse I feel about it.

Some of those posts that seem random have been artist clues that people have figured out. But in the Big Gigantic case I agree, I don't think a hint would just be posting a picture of an act. I definitely think the Kacey Musgraves thing was a hint though.

I agree, the Kacey Musgraves post is a gimme. I love her, but she'll probably do the exact same set at both Bonnaroo and Forecastle. Also, is she a headliner? 9th on her day at Coachella, 4th on her day at Bonnaroo.
I think she's either a strong #4 or a kinda weak actual headliner.

She would be a pretty boring headliner. Would be a nice mellow set as the sun sets though.

I think Kacey headlines if she plays. I guess you could slot her in a similar place to Sturgill in 2017, but I think she's at least on the level of Modest Mouse last year
anyone else think there's at least a chance vampire weekend is a forecastle headliner? it seems weird that they're announcing the lineup so late and have little word on it and maybe vampire weekend announcing their tour has to do with it. forecastle's only announced when its lineup is going to be announced just today and coincidentally vampire weekend's presale for their tour started today. they have dates in spain and portugal on the 11th and 12th but could potentially be back for forecastle on sunday. they also have an indy date and a cincinnati so maybe that takes them out as a possibility but i'm probably just really really hopeful right now
not to keep the high expectations up but i think the raconteurs are possible too. jack's played before and i feel they'd get a better lineup spot at forecastle than they would at bonnaroo. just seems like the kind of festival they'd play

Definitely want to do a new festival this summer since I didn't do any new ones last year. Raconteurs would go a long way for me. Plus, it's much easier to do than Boston Calling.

Vampire Weekend ain't happening, or this lineup would've already been out. I thought Florence + the Machine would be a great fit, but they're in England that weekend.

I really don't think this is it.
I think Kacey Musgraves is the only one I've seen a direct hint to plus she is playing every single possible festival this year. I'd be happy with any band that hasn't played forecastle or louisville on a regular basis. It seems Forecastle but more specifically AC that brings the same people to Louisville year after year after year. This year already for the summer they are bring back Jason Isbell for 2 nights, Death Cab for Cutie and Rainbow Kitten Suprise. Every year Modest Mouse hasn't played Forecastle they play here. I know they book them because they have relationships with those bands and they sell well in Louisville but I would love to see a top 6 or 8 names that don't play here every year.
After considering all the options, i pretty much just dont want:
The avetts The lumineers Greta van fleet Imagine dragons The 1975 21 pilots Fall out boy Panic at the Disco
Everything else is totally cool
The Avett Brothers are probably happening. I've heard from a second-hand source that they're playing. Plus, they headlined in 2013 and 2016, so it makes sense they'd return this year. Honestly, Forecastle would be dumb not to book them because Avett sells a lot of tickets in this city. They're one of my favorite bands and always put on a great live show, but I can see how people who aren't big fans would get tired of seeing them on the bill again and again.
They've posted two cryptic hints so far -- the first was Kacey Musgraves, and the second was Twenty One Pilots or Moon Taxi. I wouldn't be surprised if two on your list end up playing Forecastle. Other than Avett, I don't care to see any of the other artists on your list, so overall I agree. Fall Out Boy, Greta Van Fleet, and the 1975 are playing Bunbury so you don't have to worry about them.

Haven't been following this much but:
The Raconteurs - The Strokes - Kacey Musgraves
The Strokes will be in Spain. Replace The Strokes with Avett and I think that's a solid prediction.
If our top 4 has Avetts (who I used to really love, but I've seen plenty of times and they stopped making good music) AND Twenty One Pilots, that's extremely disappointing. You never want to approach a festival with "I hope my volunteer shift makes me work night time" but that would be where I'd end up.
I guess its best to steel myself to the possibility now. 3 of the last 4 years have had disappointing line-ups to some degree.
Edit: Also Cage the Elephant played 2015 and 2017. Is this the year Cage finally lines up with the Avetts?!?!
