Several years in a row of declining line ups. Booking the same bands year after year.
I'd totally agree with you...if 2017 hadn't happened.
That line-up was incredible. It was better than bonnaroo's that year.
2015, 2016 and 2018 have all had some decent names but they aren't nearly as varied and unique as what came before.
2014 was the last solid year for me. Granted I'm a bit older than a lot of festival goers and I do prefer jazzier jam band and rock but I feel like they use to have 10 to 12 things I was really dying to see and lately they only have a handful. 2017 was alright but I didn't care for the headliners from my own personal preference.
I've gone to nearly every day since the festival was held in Cherokee park so it was bound to get old to me sooner or later.
2018 was the only time I've been and I had a wonderful time. But I imagine if I had gone every year and run into repeats then I would understand a little more. ... as far as declining lineups, that's every festival. I don't feel like Forecastle has declined at the rate of some other ones.

I mean, they're never going to hit the high-water mark that was 2014 again, but I genuinely feel like they put out a great enough lineup every year to earn my money. It's always unique and diverse, and even if I don't dig on the a few of the headliners, it's got enough depth to make me happy.

Just looked back at it, and I have to agree, that year was stacked! What do you think keeps them from reaching that bar every year? BTW I just reserved my Airbnb, this will be my first time at Forecastle. Five years at Bunbury, with the experience declining each year, ready for something new!

Well 2014 was right before the bubble started really bursting. Lots of bands were touring, including two major reunions that played pretty much everywhere. In general (Shaky Knees seems to be the exemption to the rule), lineups have been declining in overall quality since 14/15 with the advent of seemingly every market getting their own festival. Now we're seeing a handful of festivals close up shop, so competition should start driving up quality again. But it's all for naught if those bands aren't touring or interested in playing festivals.

Outkast was also an anomaly in 2014. It felt like they were cramming as many shows as possible to make the most money possible before going away again. There were a good amount of regional festivals that probably got them because they were the best offer available for that date.
Also in those years Bunbury Festival was either the same weekend or like a couple of weeks off. I know for a fact that Bunbury had booked Beck that year and Forecatle swooped in and paid him more and he cancelled on them. They were probably being aggressive about their booking to make sure they didn't lose the region.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
anyone got any scoopz? headliners? personally hoping for some acts i wanted for bonnaroo like pusha t, earl, grimes, sharon van etten, mitski, janelle monae and boygenius (or any of its respective members or better oblivion community center)
for the typical americana-y stuff forecastle typically pulls i know that brandi carlile/amanda shires/margo price supergroup got teased and forecastle seems like a decent place for them to play. i could also imagine tyler childers, ruston kelly, john moreland and jeff tweedy.
also i’m sure jim james will end up on the lineup too.

I heard second hand that Avett is headlining. Tyler played here two nights in August and three nights in December, Moreland played here in September, and Mitski is playing here in March, although that might not mean anything since Forecastle is notorious for booking acts that have recently been in Louisville. Janelle would be an incredible get.
Edit: A Brandi/Amanda/Margo supergroup would be unbelievable.
