Turns out I'm planning an LA trip for this weekend, so now I'm very likely going to this. It might set the Guinness world record for most white people between 28 and 34 in one place at the same time.
Was doing a little digging about the recent Goldenvoice events at this site, Tropicalia and Summertime LBC, and their site maps. imgur.com/QFe9a7V imgur.com/WaKNVWN
With 24 bands announced for a single day, it has to be 3 stages, like Tropicalia. I feel like this lineup is really top-heavy, though. Tropicalia looks like it was one large main stage, with two smaller alternating stages at the other end. In my head, it would make more sense to have 2 big main stages that alternate, with a smaller third stage overlapping at the other end of the grounds. I would imagine it'll look like Tropicalia, in fact the map makes it look like it would be impossible to fit two larger stages next to each other in that main space, but I feel like that means missing a lot of good bands. If you can only conceivably see like 3-4 of the top 8 on the poster, i think people will be upset.
Now that we're a month out from this, I am trying to sort out where to stay. Anyone from the area have thoughts on staying in the area vs. somewhere closer to LA? I'm pretty familiar with LA, but have never been down to the Long Beach area, so I'm not sure what's the better option for Fri/Sat night.
I imagine that Goldenvoice has been so overwhelmed with Coachella and thought they could actually handle prep for this with Coachella happening and now realized they couldn't. Hopefully that doesn't mean worse news to come.

Goldenvoice know what they're doing. They're just always pretty late in the game with announcements.

Yeah, it's not merely Coachella that GV holds back announcements for. I remember FYF maps and set times wouldn't come out until a couple days beforehand either. They're now selling advance parking, so...that's something? Different lots and shuttle stops depending on which day you're going, city likely saving the garages for local businesses for Friday.
Expect set times next Tuesday or Wednesday to be honest, and probably other logistical details Monday or Tuesday of next week. Haven't even thought about logistics ha.
Excited for this though! Forgot it was next weekend already.
I probably need to book my flight out for this, I booked a room and got tickets when first announced. I guess this kind of snuck up on me post-coachella and I wasn't sure if I would have then energy (or funds) to tackle it, but one day - what the hell. Next day cinco de mayo.
They posted some stuff on their Instagram stories about tickets being sent this week. I still don't get why they feel the need to wait until the last minute for a schedule. Gov Ball is in 6 weeks and way more logistically complicated and the schedule came out yesterday. Just kinda frustrating when i can't see a single benefit to them holding back.

Because it's Goldenvoice, and this is what they do. I agree it's ridiculous when you compare with most other promoters, but it's frustratingly par for the course with them.
Having never really dealt with Goldenvoice, i'm just not used to it. And "it's just what they do" doesn't really make it right. There's absolutely no reason they couldn't release the set times by now.
Didn't they wait to announce the Cardi B dropout from Tropicalia until the day before the fest (same day they released set times)? Now I'm wondering if there will be any last minute surprise replacements here, too... I just hate being left in the dark.

I don't think anyone's really defending it. Just pushing back on the idea that it means anything; they always do this. They clearly see some benefit from doing it that way, and it's not the kind of thing that determines whether or not people come, so they don't feel a need to change it.
That looks pretty ideal other than a slight bummer for Ra Ra Riot vs. Passion Pit (and the fact that my buddy really wants to see Funeral Party and a noon set would mean us leaving damn early ha).

If true, this would be as ideal of a schedule as I could possibly get, though I suppose that comes at the cost of criminally short times for The Faint (30 minutes!?) and Grizzly Bear.
yeah... questionable but possible... where did that picture come from?
in one sense, it seems insane that someone as low-billed as Greer would get such a late start and actually a longer set than someone like Tokyo Police Club... but also if all the bottom billed people are opposing someone in the "Top 8" then i guess i get it.
I don't think those are real. "Pheonix" seems like a weird choice to close out too.
GV is all over the place with typos this year (they had quite a few for Coachella live stream), so I wouldn’t be surprised if this turned out to be real.
It seems like too much work for someone to have created and formatted this Excel-looking schedule for it to be fake, so I'm leaning towards believing it. Still would be nice to know where it came from.
There were bound to be conflicts with such a stacked lineup, but this is kind of best case scenario. The three bands I'll have to miss that I had hoped to see are Ra Ra Riot, Neon Indian, and RAC... and I'm fine with that. I'm actually going to the Passion Pit headline show (in Boston) 3 weeks later, so I might actually see Ra Ra Riot over them anyway.
Did anyone go to Tropicalia or anything else at this site? How far is the walk between the main stage and second/third stages?
