R.E.M.'s last show was 11/18/08, last album release 3/7/11 Pink Floyd's last show was 7/2/05, last album release 11/7/14 Allman Bros Band's last show 10/28/14, last album release 3/18/03 Rush's last show 8/1/15, last album release 6/12/12
no one in REM died and I agree with Floyd being ineligible but that’s more like a “Pink Floyd” album. I was going to draft REM with my second pick then i realized they were definitely out with the rules. I have no opinion on allmans or rush. I think trantsgiving essential member dying thing doesn’t really make sense because “essential member” is subjective.
Honestly, I feel like they all should be eligible for this draft but the rules we ended up with exclude them all. The second post of this thread was me asking for a discussion of rules and nothing came of this issue until after the draft was under way.
pro move with b2bs is take something to poll first and hold it up with the 2nd pick
Except we've got really short windows in this draft. It'll buy you time but you won't be able to filibuster an entire poll without trading for some picks.

yeah but look at all this discussion that's happened before anything has gone to poll

Polls can't start until 9AM. The discussion didn't buy time. It happened because there WAS time. If his selections had come in at 10AM, for example, I would've just dropped a poll and ended it if it became unnecessary.
I’m having a hard time determining this, is Parliament-Funkadelic eligible?
Was looking into that this morning. I also can’t tell
Glad I’m not the only one. From what I can tell it’s been billed as George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars since the 80’s, but I’m not completely sure on this

just want to point out that we've been discussing this exact scenario the whole time, though - it's no different than the Beastie Boys, really: acts that released music and/or toured after the deadline, but then had a key member die and haven't done anything since.

The issue with the Beasties is that they completed a long in the works album after the cutoff. It's unclear what happened - if anything - post 2009. What we do know is that they stopped performing in 2009 and there has been new activity since he died. They were off my board because I didn't feel like they were eligible but nobody challenged it.
In this case, both acts were active until about five years ago. It's not about whether they will become active in the future but whether they were active after the cutoff and they clearly were. In the early discussion of this draft I floated the idea of moving the cutoff date to the end of 2014 to allow more acts to be eligible and there wasn't really any enthusiasm for it. To come back now and say that five years of inactivity is fine when we signed on for ten is what is frustrating to me. If we want to change the rules to something that makes more sense to the group then I'm fine with that. But to just arbitrarily ignore them is wrong, IMO.

See I didn’t ask for the date pushback and I’d imagine other people didn’t as well because I took that as a band that has simply broken up but all members were still alive. We’re talking about bands here that have had not only members die but integral parts or the literal founding members and namesakes die and are clearly done for good. To me the death of those members is the exact point of this game
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

I mean, I think you're off on your dates re: the Beasties. Their last live show was 2009, but Hot Sauce Committee wasn't finished and released until 2011. MCA didn't die until 2012, so there's no new activity since his death.
As for Rush and ABB, it's similar circumstances, just more recent.
And I don't think five years of inactivity itself should qualify, but if it's five years of inactivity coupled with/resultant from the death of a key member, I think it's okay.
