kind of unfair to make that comparison considering i said that about someone who thinks that people like me should be eliminated from the gene pool. this is someone who supported an organization that thinks autistic people are a disease to be cured so obviously you can imagine how that would make me feel. its not “needlessly cruel”
i should work on my sentence structure, i was describing the qualities of pablo's post, that it was a call back to a previous thread and also needlessly cruel to prince (a beloved musical icon). i don't know enough about taylor or autism or the various autism focused organizations and their stances to have developed my own take on it, so take your word for it that the organization in question is bad and it is bad that taylor supported it.
it's also bad of course if prince was anti-gay. it's weird that a few threads ago we were talking about how david allen coe was pro-gay. life's a funny fuckin' thing.

no worries! i totally misread. essentially the group he supported believes vaccines cause autism and have the goal of “creating a world without autism” so it was pretty disgusting to see that.

Thats awful. I wonder how active Hawkins was in the organization and if he realized what he was supporting. (I have no idea.)
I have a child with autism, so it is interesting for me to hear your perspective.

I just heard someone say cock rock is that different than butt rock?
Cock rock as a term used to refer to rock and roll that was macho/male centric with frontman moves that treated mics and/or guitars as almost like sexual organs or partners. I think Zeppelin, Stones, The Who, et al were considered cock rock. Though not a misogynist, Plant had the hypersexualized moves on stage and used to even wear those early 70's pants that didn't leave anything to the imagination. Later it was a term that you heard thrown around at glam/hair metal. That's about all I got on it.

So it is the same.
I guess it depends on what someone’s definition or idea of buttrock is. I don’t use the term because it’s just kind of dumb to me. But it resonates with lots of other people. I feel like early Van Halen is a later band between original hard rock and hair metal that could absolutely be considered cock rock as well.

On second thought it can’t be. If all rock is buttrock, not all rock is cock rock. They can overlap of course.
Spicy take: Could any band that treated groupies the way Led Zeppelin did be truly considered non-mysoginist?
Lots of debauchery in that era which would not be tolerated now. But here’s a spicy question back. Is Queen cock rock? Seems like they fit the loose definition
Jazz should go soon. With the exception of like four people, none of you like and actively listen to jazz nearly as much as you do Stones/Zep/Bowie/Neil/Floyd/Fleetwood Mac/Beatles. Some of you went to Rezz over Herbie Hancock at Roo. Don't play.
Someone should dig up the Spotify end of year threads and count the number of jazz musicians in people's top 5.

So you are making a case for yourself to be voted off. Got it.

I love Jazz (and Jaz). I don’t much care who gets Spotify plays, so that’s irrelevant to me. It should be top few before going, but I got some stuff on it from the early integration of musicians in the south (and arrests) through the fusion years of the mid 70’s into the hell Jazz of Bruford, Zappa and people who could play it. Plus it’s the heartbeat rhythm of my city and me in another form.

Replace jazz with soul and I think you've got something here.

Jazz is having a moment. Yorke and Greenwood poaching Tom Skinner, Pharaoh Sanders working with Floating Points, Nubya Garcia touring with Khruangbin. You already had acts like BBNG and GoGo Penguin playing multi-genre fests, and it's even more common now. The Comet is Coming could play Desert Daze or Levitation or Psycho and it wouldn't seem out of place at all.
I don't think you can make that sort of argument for modern soul without really stretching. It's been coasting while votes shift between the 2-3 most vulnerable genres every day. Even if you're a soul fan, are you really listing it as a top 6-8 genre here?

Otis Redding is great but he's not making anyone's Spotify wrapped
