Jazz should go soon. With the exception of like four people, none of you like and actively listen to jazz nearly as much as you do Stones/Zep/Bowie/Neil/Floyd/Fleetwood Mac/Beatles. Some of you went to Rezz over Herbie Hancock at Roo. Don't play.
Someone should dig up the Spotify end of year threads and count the number of jazz musicians in people's top 5.
Herbie tickled my soul too perfectly for me to ever vote for his genre

Yeah. That was an important part of why Sunday finish was what I needed it to be. But then Sons of Kemet Thursday was my #2 set of the weekend. Lots of aspects to jazz can touch the insides.
I don’t know how I want to say goodbye to funk. Maybe it would be that we grew up Catholic and lived three blocks from church. But there was a small chapel church also a few blocks the other way at a black orphanage which is where our family attended mass. It was elderly also mostly African American people who might have had trouble walking all the way to the parish church. Maybe about 50 people or so was the average attendance. An older dude maybe 19 or 20 named Keith played bass for the church band. And it was straight funk whenever they would go into jam parts. He used to wear these badass 2-3 inch high sole dress shoes that inspired me and my middle brother at like 8 or 9 to get us some hip shoes too. Haha. It’s hard to say what the best funk song I’d want to leave for posterity. I suppose the obvious multigenerational choice would be James Brown Get on Up. Even if you cant dance, you’re feeling something when you hear that. But it’s too easy. So is Jungle Boogie, Hollywood Swinging, Cissy Strut, Low Rider, Give Up the Funk, Living for the City, Super Freak, Love Rollercoaster etc. I think I’m just going to say peace and cya soon to funk.
