This was our set up for last year... only had to house 2 of us so we had plenty of room. Sheets + EZ UP is the ONLY way to go... the first year we used tarps (for the first couple of days) and had zero air flow. Last year it was breeze city.
I envision my site set up like this for this years Roo. It's my first time so hopefully I can somewhat master the art of campsite layout!!

Same! Academy Sports had the same tent but purple (i like purple... it's trippy.. what?) -- just need to acquire or make the side walls bc those are hella expensive. Love the pictures -- it's my first time, too, and even though I have years of camping experience.... this post just made me realize how insane this will be. But i like insane. BRING IT!

I'm right there with all of this, 2 people, an ez up, get some sheets, possibly a tarp or two to put on at night (as i plan on sleeping in a cot under this set up and that could help block some sun in the morning).

I was thinking sheets -- I thought I'd read somewhere on a survival thing for roo that tarps don't let the wind in (if it happens to be windy) so do sheets???

Yes I've heard the same thing about the tarps, that's why I was going to put sheets around the ez-up during the day, and then possibly on one or two sides that face where the sun rises, put tarps on those sides at night. If you tie the sheets to the sides tight enough they won't blow around as much. This is my first year camping, the last two I was in an RV, but something also to note is bring some anchoring rods or weights to hold your ez up down in case it gets really windy.

I went ahead on my lunch break today and purchased the purple ez up. Couldn't help it -- i'm excited lol. Thanks for the tips! I'll have to make sure I get something.

2014 will be our first time going to Bonnaroo, we're planning on having a tent and an ez up canopy. Based on what I've read, we'll also be bringing a tarp to drape over the tent from the canopy for shade and extra weather protection. I haven't set up many camp sites so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to go about setting up the tarp? Mainly keeping it in place.
Any other general set up tips would be greatly appreciated as well!

I use plastic clamps to keep tarps attached to the canopy and tents. I found a pack of assorted sizes at Lowes for around $12. They hold pretty strong. I have a canopy/tent with netting on the sides, and then I hang a tarp on the west side to block the sunrise and then sheets on the other sides as needed to block out the sun. Ice lasts a lot longer in your cooler if it doesn't have direct sun hitting it. I also keep spare towels laying over the coolers to help keep the heat out. I tried loading a pic but it doesn't seem to be working.

Great call on the clamps, my 10' x 10' ez up arrived last night. now i just gotta get it cladded, i wasn't sure if i should tarp one or two sides at night for blocking the sunrise, but i guess if you just block the one side that should do the trick?
Was going to do this, but have to postpone for a few weeks. Sending my MSR Fling tent back in for a warranty issue, so I'll have a different MSR tent that I thought I would for Bonnaroo. Pumped to put it all together though!
Any of you that use tarps or sheets as shade walls, do you attach them at the bottom also or do you just let them blow in the breeze? Could the wind potentially create a giant parachute of you your EZ-up if the sheets are attached at the bottom? I'm definitely bringing some sheets this year, and I am honestly curious.

3rd bonnaroo, 1st year camper. From the research ive done the best way to go is clamping the sheets and/tops at the top to your ez up. Im gonna tarp my sun facing side and sheet 2/3 other sides to leave the exposed side away from the sun.

Becky: Only attach the tapestries (or sheets) to the top part of your EZ Up (the large size binder clips are a god send). The breeze will be priceless and you will be able to walk in and out of the EZ Up with no problems. Your EZ Up should have holes on the bottom of the posts to steak it into the ground - this should make it so it doesn't create a giant parachute
Justin: I - personally - am against tarping any part of the EZ Up due to personal experience. My first bonnaroo our neighbors basically tarped themselves into their set up - must have been some LARGE type of EZ Up, it was like they created their own cave. Anyway, I don't know how they even stayed in there because it caused our campsite to be SO HOT due to no breeze able to come through that it was almost unbearable. I don't think I can even put into words how much this stopped any sort of air flow to us and we had ZERO tarps! I don't even think we used any sort of tapestry either because of the smoldering heat! Over the years we have just adjusted the heights of various sides of the EZ Up to shade us from the sun, or we just put up tapestries over each side which seems to work just fine for us.
Just wanted to share my personal experiences with you both! Hope it helps!

We used cloth shower curtains around our ez-up last year. Cheap, easy, and fun. Attached them with the rings. We used a tarp to join our camp with our neighbors. While it was great for a little extra shade, it really trapped the heat in. If you're going to use tarps, use the silver ones.

I was thinking of tarping only one side at night i guess because I plab on sleeping on a cot underneath it vs a tent

Not a bad idea! You'll probably get to sleep longer that way too!

Don't use a tarp for more than one wall unless you want to build an oven.
Sheets go at the top, use big clips to clamp it to the top of your EZ-Up. To keep it from blowing too much, use rope + stakes at the bottom. You want a gap at the bottom / sides for air to blow through. As far as the sail thing... make sure you use the giant coleman tent stakes and / or some kind of weight (cement blocks, sandbags, the cooler, your passed out drunk friend) to keep your EZ-Up down.
Most of the "flying through the air" EZ-Ups I've seen are where people don't stake them properly.
You want those. They're strong enough that you can literally take a rope, tie it to the clamp, tie a stake to the other end of the rope, and lock down anything. Bottom of the sheets, parts of your campsite, etc... They are exactly the right size to clamp things to the metal framework of EZ-Ups.

Thank you sir, we're here to find the secrets, and we found em.

These are the exact clamps we use for our site. They're perfect and very strong! We only use one tarp if necessary and it's always silver. We have several sheets that I found at goodwill. I can always find a unique/cool looking sheet or just a plain white one and then tie-dye or paint it. We don't tie down the sheets at the bottom. Much better breeze if you don't.

The spikes that come in the bag are too short to do you much good. You want to look for Coleman 10" spikes, they can be found at Target, Walmart, Amazon, etc... usually in the camping section. www.amazon.com/Coleman-10-Inch-Steel-Tent-Stakes/dp/B002HU086C/
Just keep an eye out for them, they will sometimes be $2 with free shipping on Amazon, and should be available in big box stores for under $6.

I will second these. I have used them every year I have went to Bonnaroo and never had any issues.
