Someone asked about skate shoes... the hubby took chacos and skate shoes and found the DC skate shoes to be very comfy and supportive. His chacos gave him a few blisters
I will be going with Crocs, Reef flops (the "Sandy" style) and these tan boots that are calf-height, waterproof, super comfortable and sturdy and great in mud and much and gross stuff. I want to take them just so they are exposed to Bonnaroo... they are my new best friends and I want them to travel the world with me!

Hey guys, first post here since last year. I missed the board....
Ok onto my question/reply. I will save you guys the picture (unless people really want to see) but it seems I have some sort of allergic reaction to the grass/hay that is all over the farm. The parts of my feet that were exposed (I was wearing tevas so a good portion) ended up red and puffy, and itchy, and painful. At the Wilco concert there was a nice nurse lady who gave me benadryl and ibuprofin. I ended up stopping at the medic tent on the way back to the site to get some hydrocortisone balm.
Any suggestions on what I should do for this year? I love my tevas and want to continue wearing them, but I'm afraid of this happening again. I was thinking crocs might be nice to help cover my feet a bit more. If possible I would like to avoid wearing shoes since they will not only be hotter, but if i'm going to get water from one of the trailers I can't stand wet shoes all day.

I mentioned about the skate shoes a bit back. They are key because we have to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Pretty comfy too, especially with good padded socks. It's def worth the money to invest in new good socks before the fest.
However, I'd love to be rocking these most of the time. I have em, and they're comfy and cool...

Barry, besides trying to get more coverage from different shoes you may want to try Ivy Block. It's a cream that creates a barrier to prevent you from getting poison ivy but it would probably work the same for your problem since it must be the contact with the hay/grass that is causing the sores.

I'm glad so many people have posted in this thread. Footwear can really make or break your Roo. Typically I wear keens, but if things get muddy I'll switch to doc martens + insoles. Here's a good test to see if your footwear will work well at Bonnaroo: Walk 1.5 miles away from where you live. Stop and stand for 20 minutes, inching foward Jog in place for 30-40 mins to simulate dancing, or just dance. Walk another .5 miles and have lunch or a beer or something, but don't sit down unless you sit on the ground. Wander around and look at stuff wherever you are. Walk home. If when you get back your feet hurt, those shoes are not good for Bonnaroo, but you had a fun day anyway.

oooh thanks midagecrisis! I have hives and are sometimes caused by external forces... I may have to take this stuff to handle the grass as well (I did get some welts like mosquito bites from it alter in the weekend)

Tell me what shoes have proved to be the best for Bonnaroo?!
I wore a pair of Crocs last year and absolutely loved them. I'll be wearing them again this year.
My wife wore flip flops and will probably do the same.
The nice thing about open shoes is that they allow your feet to breathe, thereby reducing sweat (and stench) and allowing your body to cool more efficiently.
Your body loses the bulk of its heat through the top of your head, the bottom of your feet, and the palms of your hands. Cooling those areas as efficiently as possible makes the weekend more enjoyable all around.
i have a black pair. they are super comfy. they have the same functionality as crocs (same material) but they aren't quite as hideous. they fit snug so you don't have to worry about them coming off in any situation.
i wore crocs last year. it was the first time i'd ever worn them and i got a blister on the top of my foot of all places. otherwise, they are the most comfy shoes ever and i still hate them.

After lurking here I decided to buy a pair of sanuks for my first 'roo. I bought the ones that someone above me linked to. Final price was like $42 ftw.

I've had the same pair of Dr. Martins Jeruselam Cruisers since 1997 and they will make yet another appearance to the farm. The insole has completely detached off one of them and it's a pain in the ass to walk sometimes because I wind up kicking it out almost every other step. I really should buy a new pair but these are already broken in. IMO, Dr. Martins is the best $110 you can spend on footwear.
