Just realized that I need new shoes for this Roo. I've been wearing the same pair of Sanuks for the past three years, and I tried them on the other day and the sole just isn't that comfortable anymore. Plus they're slightly too big so they fall off if I step in deep mud. I have a pair of Sanuk Donnies that are really comfortable, but they tend to be my go-to shoe when I need to wear brown shoes (work and such). So I might just wear them to Roo and get a new pair for work when I get back. But I've also been looking into Croc loafers and the originals - they look comfortable. I've seen a lot of love on here for Tevas - do the straps not rub your feet raw? I feel like that would be an issue for me.
The straps have never been a problem for me. Like nerdbyrd said, just make sure they are set right. I did have an issue once where I got a blister on the ball of my foot wearing Tevas. I had never had an issue before, so it may have been just the one particular pair.
I have two pair... one has a "hard" bottom and the other feels like a normal pair of flip flops. Both are comfy for extended periods of time.
My chacos are SOO comfy but after a few hours, they start to hurt from the strap. I keep them as loose as possible and they still tighten up over time from walking so I'm periodically loosening them. Mine have a ton of straps and aren't the basic chacos. My next pair will be the big straps that don't require a ton of maintenance
Hey I have plantaar fasciitis (Sp?) and was wondering if Tevas would be ok for me? Currently i'm wearing Asics running shoes and man those are awesome!
What Asics model is it? It should say on the outside of the shoe underneath your ankle.
I would recommend Chacos assuming you have the most common foot for planerfacisats. Teva shoe isn't bad, but the Chaco is that much better.

Hey I have the Asics GT 2000, they have the gel support and these I never have any pain issues. The thing is i don't want them to get dirty since I use them for work.

I wore my Toms on every day except for Sunday, where I wore my Vans. The Toms were perfect for me, but the Vans were not. Socks + Vans + Tennessee heat = a bad time. I'll be wearing only Toms this time. I went barefoot for a while after I went in the fountain because I didn't want to wear wet Toms. I actually enjoyed being barefoot the most.
Thanks for all the recommendations guys. For anyone reading through I have done 3 Roos with my old PF Flyers (like converse) and Vans. I was comfortable the whole time. I think the most important part is to wear shoes that you have broken in well. I just ordered some sanuks. They feel amazing and i will definitely be trying them out on the farm this year. Thinking about trying some crocs or vibrates this year. How well do crocs fair if it gets really rainy/muddy?

Just a few thoughts: - Make damn sure you have something comfortable to put on your feet. Tending to painful, blistered toes is no way to spend your festival. - For those buying new shoes, break them in beforehand. Buy at least a half-size up to allow for normal swelling of the feet that comes with walking/standing for hours on end. If your shoes are snug when you first put them on, they are too small. - Bring a lot of socks.

They are slicker than goose snot since they have no tread on the bottoms. And the holes and low backs let the muck ooze in. Also the tan/dirt lines you get from the holes make your feet look like you have measles (yes, you can sunburn your feet through the holes)--but other than that they are very comfortable!
i usually prefer my rainbow sandals or sanuk shoes during the day. I switch over to a comfortable pair of sneakers in the evening so I don't have to worry about losing a shoe when it's dark out and I'm fucked up. I added the cheap Dr. Sholl gel insets to my reliable sneakers for additional comfort.
If you do get blisters, bring super glue and waterproof athletic tape.

Ahhh, the stories those lonely single shoes out in the field the next morning could tell, if only they could talk...I don't know why they can't; they DO have tongues....

I bought these Skechers sandals and wore them for the first time when I went to do a poster run for the street team. I did a lot of walking, and my feet were comfy all day. They are adjustable and easy to adjust, so after a while when my feet started to swell a little I just loosened the strap and kept on. I'm definitely bringing these to Roo.
As a former dance student, I highly recommend toe tape and taping your toes. It helps reduce blister-causing friction, does not fall off when your feet get wet/sweaty, and they provide a bit of padding. They kept my feet relatively pain free through 3 hours/week of pointe class. They even make foam tape (wish they had foam tape back in the day).
My Sanuks came in the mail today. They are the single fucking most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. Where have they been all my life? Now, I need a pair in brown, black and khaki and I can get rid of all of my other shoes.
i am planning to go minimalist, as much as possible, because i hate being bogged down with items, worrying about stuff, etc., when i'm away,
so flip flops for general use and i'll probably be barefoot most of the time. is that cool with you guys?
Do you wear flip flops regularly? I have heard of people in the past who ended up getting their feet wrecked by flip flops since they weren't used to them specifically between the toes blister/pain.

i have,
have also walked around barefoot a lot, including concrete, ran a few 5ks barefoot, so i'm sort of like a barefooter.

are the flops not common? barefooters?
If you've got rugged soles (which it sounds like you do), you'll probably be just dandy. Sometimes I'll go barefoot for a little bit if I have space to dance and not have my feet stepped on.

I haven't worn shoes and socks to a music festival since Bonnaroo 2003, when I showed up in shoes and socks and my friend made fun of me. It's been birkenstocks or more recently chacos since then.
But I recently discovered these Sauconys and they are amazing. Great for walking and overall great support. Might give them a shot on Thursday and see how it works out. Not having to sunscreen my shitty dirty feet would be a plus.

This. You gotta get the skin between your big and second toe callused or you can rub badly. And even after you build that callus the first time that thong gets wet from rain or dew you can still rub clean through the callus to the raw skin. Been there, done that, but still love my flops.

I'm looking to take the Sanuk plunge. Is there really much of a difference between the different styles, or is it mainly cosmetic?

Trying to decide between the Chiba and Vagabond.
There's only going to be aesthetic differences between those two really. There is a big difference between their sidewalk surfers (which they both are) and their shoes (which is what I have been wearing recently).

I loved my Vagabonds til a rabid groundhog attacked them a few years ago - especially horrifying since they were on my feet at the time.

Do you like the shoes more than the sidewalk surfers at this point? Was looking for something that I can go sockless in ideally.
Think I'm leaning towards the Vagabonds if I go the surfer route, I see they have two ventilation holes in the side.
Edit: Nevermind, I see they don't offer the shoes in big and tall sizes. Makes that decision easier for me!
I have not been to Roo but I have spent plenty of time outdoors here in Tennessee. I spent 6 summers working at a camp, 95% of the time I wore only 2 pair of shoes my Berkinstocks and my Teva's if I can only take one it would be my Teva's since they are better in water. That being said I would not recommend going out for Berkinstocks now because they take about one summer to get to know your feet.
