I would agree with a 311 add, the new album was a major letdown but they can play a great live show and have a solid set of albums. I always wondered why 311 was never invited to the Roo. Just seemed like a good chill choice.

Cake really gets the crowd into their shows. I dont know if they're big enough, but i think theyd be awesome on an outdoor stage. Maybe in umphreys spot in 05.
My friends and I who have been going to Bonnaroo since 2003 have thought Cake would be a great fit on a Saturday afternoon. I think they're big enough to play a stage during the day. By the way, I like the way you think typeoserv.....all good calls.
They need more Drag City acts. Silver Jews, Joanna Newsom, Bonnie Prince Billy, Bert Jansch, Espers...Pavement reunited? It's a fantastic label that's based in the area. They need to make it happen.
Beyond that, I'd love for them to get some of the family acts like Femi Kuti or Zappa plays Zappa. Dweezil would be a great late night act...
With the exception of the Ben Folds set last year, I think that the audience-involving shows are better in tents. There's just something about being bunched under a giant tin pavilion that makes it that much more personal.
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain I like watchin' the puddles gather rain And all I can do is just pour some tea for two And speak my point of view But it's not sane, It's not sane
I just want some one to say to me I'll always be there when you wake
I think that the majority of Roo attendees are familiar with and have positive thoughts about Ben Harper. He may be a draw but he's certainly not a divisive like Dave or Panic and that may be enough. The Dave & Friends and Panic sets the last few years did not draw all that they could have -- Ben might actually have a better turnout, IMO. I'm not much of a fan but his music is okay and I'd certainly stick around for his set.
I also like the suggestions of Flogging Molly (though I think that they may be too aggressive for Roo) and Counting Crows (probably too commercial -- that 1st album pop success stigma).

And we have a winner. Drag City is such a wonderful label. I just saw Joanna twice during the tour she's doing, and it's a stunning live show. The new album is one of the best of '06, and seeing her play the entire thing straight through with a backing band is incredible. Sadly, she's had to cancel some recent gigs, because she lost her voice. I'm also in love with her, damn you, Bill Callahan.
And so as it goes, I had the privelage of jamming with a legend the other night. I had no idea he lived so close to me. But after exchanging bars and riffs I'd have to say that a Lonnie Mack show would be totally fitting for Bonnaroo.
Stevie's on a shortlist of headlining artists that would insure my ass being in Manchester next summer...
Man, I'm glad to see someone else shares my feelings about Stevie. I think he'd fit perfectly in the friday night legend spot Petty had last year, and would be a big signing overall for superfly. If it could just go Stevie - PJ - Gilmour I'd be in heaven.
K + to you man, Cake would be WICKED at Roo - my wife and I have thought that before!
I'm still saying Isis would bend people if they played as well, but Cake would be way up on my wish list.
One of the more remarkable acts I've seen in the last 5 years or so was Isis in Pennsylvania, but Cake would have EVERYONE into their set.
Nice suggestion!
PS - Anyone else think Shpongle needs to have a one off ? I think Shpongle would be one hell of a performance to see and would really alter some realities for the audience...

a lil' Cake whould be icing on the.....um.....'pastry pie'. One out of the 4 trillion things i like about roo' is the diversity in artists & bands there. I love the jammy bands, the rockers, the trippies, the mellows, the 60's, the hardcore'ers, the ol' school rappers & ryme sayers, turntable'istas, and even pop'ies, and eveything inbetween and every combination and mix of all'em. so long as it's original and unique and good,, I am,, in every meaning of the word, 'about it!' I love Bonnaroo. and I probably love you.
Thanks and let's hope Cake is on the lineup this year! Never seen them live (but heard from friends they're a great live act) and Bonnaroo would be a great first time!
