Sound persists = cheering or "ra ra" which is a form of cheering, and the persisting comes from the repetition of the "Ra". Not sure what to do with the nanny part though.

Yeah, I'm by no means convinced of the Billy idea. I just threw it out there as a potential alternate option instead of the word "goat." But I can't get much of anywhere with it.
I'm still sort of liking The Extra Lens. They released an album in October 2010, so that might boost their likeliness.

sound garden would be awesome.
im going to throw out Perpetual Groove. the name alone solves the second part of the clue, but I don't know enough about them to make the first part fit.... maybe someone else does.

I think I can tie up the loose ends to this clue to tie it back to The Mountain Goats.
The sun part- They had an album called "Sunset Tree"
Persistence of sounds- They have all these "song series" for their albums of EP's where they constantly use the same words... Wikipedia describes it better than I can:
Found the persistence link for Soundgarden. The name of the band came from a pipe sculpture in Seattle called "A Sound Garden". The wind makes the pipes moan continuously. This is a different thought than the goat route. The only piece that I can't fit is the nannies.
While searching google a little I found a Tennessee festival called Goats Music and More! No real tie to this clue, but an interesting idea for a festival.
somebody want to tweet gary about if the clue refers to goats in any way since most people seem to be locked into that idea 100% already
EDIT: nm, pepper said he tweeted something to that effect. just nobody posted the quote.
I am not sure if there was a tweet or not. I have been watching his feed all evening. He did however confirm it on page 1 and I added it to the 1st post almost immediately.

LMAO, I have no idea about ANY of these clues (they're driving me crazy) but I read that Goatwhore comment and was in shock. One of my girlfriends co-workers slept with one of the members. I didn't think they were that popular... ???
But anyway... I hope the lineup is better than last years, I opted to pop my All Good cherry instead.

How is it shocking? They are a bad with the word "goat" in the name.

Posted by agenthal on Today at 10:30pm Guys, it's Ra Ra Riot. They went to Syracuse University. Guess what their mascot is? Vita the Goat.
I WIN FOR ONCE!
Agenthal, between your answer and mine, I think we definitely have it. I went to Syracuse, but never knew the goat thing.
