Now that MMJ and Phil have been confirmed as late night Which stage acts, the question of when/where Kanye plays has become really interesting. On one hand, it would seem that his "Glow in the Dark" show would require a late night set and his popularity demands a stage, but unless the schedule is seriously rearranged from previous years, there doesn't seem to be room for him. Some people have suggested that he play Thursday night (after all, that is the date he has posted on his website). But I don't think it is likely that an artist billed so high would play Thursday, as many people are still trickling into the grounds Thursday night. Putting Kanye on Thursday would force them to start letting people in on Wednesday (formally, that is). I just don't think it is likely. My theory is as follows: Last year, the White Stripes played Which Stage from 7:15-8:45, and WSP (the "headliner") played 8:30-11:30. Although the overlap was small, I believe it was the first time they've ever had a scheduled overlap of a headliner. Now consider this year, Jack Johnson is a headliner, but it is unlikely he can play a 3 hour set. Jack is probably good for two and a half hours, tops (and that would be a stretch, with a break). So, what if Kanye plays Which stage from approx. 8:00-9:30 and Jack Johnson takes What stage from something like 9:00-11:30? There's a small overlap, but Jack Johnson is still clearly a "headliner." This accommodates for the fact that JJ isn't likely to fill out 3 hours, and allows Kanye to have some fun in the dark.
I also mulled the idea that Kanye could overlap Metallica, serving as an alternative for all those who felt disenfranchised.

I think Kanye and Jack will overlap quite a bit. Kanye will come on as the sun is going down. Two headliners on Sunday? I could honestly see it. If Kanye wants to play at night, he will play at night.
IF he is on the main stage pre-headliner that is the only other place I can see him.
I personally don't think he is the right type of musician for the ROO crowd to draw huge numbers late night with bands like MMJ, Disco Biscuits, Sigur Ros, and Phil playing late night. The Hip Hop tents are rarely packed.
I would imagine each of these 4 draw a bigger crowd, simply b/c of their familiarity and the length of their shows.
Kanye's gotta use his gimmick... There has to be some way that Kanye's getting a stage for a night time show. It just doesn't make sense for him to play even near the end of the day... it's Glow In The Dark, for chrissakes.

i dont know man, i know a few people that are going this year and one of there main draws was kanye (shocking i know) ...just playing advocate here ..
IMO hes gotta have a night time slight...glow in the dark n all
oh and i just found this while googling for a picture of him: Kanye West has hired Madonna's choreographer Jamie King for his upcoming tour.
King also recently choreographed for Christina Aguilera's 'Back To Basics' tour. The rapper told MTV, "I saw the last Madonna concert – he did the last [several] Madonna concerts and so I've been sitting down vibing with him, 'cause I want to bring the level of entertainment up another level. At the end of the day, regardless of the 'he said/she said,' regardless of whatever doodie I talk, whatever sh*t anybody else talks – come to the show and have a good time."
He also announced that the tour, in support of his forthcoming third album 'Graduation', will be known as the 'Glow In The Dark' tour. 'Graduation' is slated for a September release. undercoverhd.com/news/Story.aspx?id=2170

Within this message board, you may be correct. But there is not way Sigur Ros draws a bigger crowd than Kanye West. I know that Hip-Hop tents aren't generally packed (The Roots and Jurassic 5 were, however), but no hip-hop tent show has featured a performer nearly as popular as Kanye, nor have any of the others glowed in the dark. None of those tents have a big enough capacity for him. Furthermore, he's billed 4th on the line-up. No way the guy right after headliner billing gets a tent.

yea but after seeing a Headliner in a Tent in 2006 (Trey Anastasio), I don't think they are afraid to put anyone in a tent. They put friggin Ben Harper/John Paul jones in the smallest tent.
^ To the highlighted part: If he's booked in the right spot, with no confrontations, you bet I'd go and dance at his show, though I'm not a fan... I have no doubt that he'll tear it up at the farm.

That is true... I do know one person who is going this year solely because of Kanye's presence, so there definitely are some that are ecstatic to see him there.
This is also the same person who whenever I'm curious about a popular band/artist on the radio I ask her what she thinks of them, and if she likes them I usually know I will hate it, and vice versa. It's odd how we manage to differ on a large majority of our band tastes... yet both share the same passion for music period.

perhaps not Sigur Ros, but Phil and MMJ will defintely outdraw Kanye at Bonnaroo. I will bet money on it. And about capacity, see my note above regarding Trey Anastasio and Harper/John Paul JOnes.

Those were both Superjams, Superjam is always in a tent, and Trey was not announced in advance.
And I'm not really a Kanye advocate, but he just won Album of the year . . . you don't put the guy who won album of the year in a tent, I think he's going to draw a bigger crowd then GRAB.

not always. they have been on the which stage in the past. Hip Hop shows are almost always late night in a Tent. Has been that way since 2005. One Late night HIp hop show per year

I remember J-5 had a pretty huge crowd at the which stage, and I feel like Kanye would draw a waaaay bigger crowd than them. I think you guys are underestimating how many people will attend his show, also overestimating the draw of MMJ.
personally, I believe his draw is irrelevant. With him doing a "glow in the dark" show, and with there being no chance of him being on the which stage late night, it pretty much leaves only one option: Late Night in a Tent.
Whether or not he SHOULD be on a bigger stage during the day is an argument to be made, but the simple fact that the tour is GLOW IN THE DARK rules day-time out, in my opinion.

I dunno... I feel like almost everybody at Roo has atleast heard some form of Kanye before, whereas My Morning Jacket doesn't get much radio time but there is a relatively large amount of hype about them at Roo. I mean even jambase and all the other websites that announced the line up wrote "...and Bonnaroo favorite My Morning Jacket." Since a lot of people's favorite thing about the Roo is finding new music I think there will be a lot of people discovering MMJ this year and hearing them for their first time, only because someone in their group is probably going to suggest it. That, on top of their already strong following on the farm I think makes them having definite potential to pack the which stage full I think.

Unless you want a riot, it is absolutely relevant. The guy is arguably the biggest star on the bill right now putting on what might be the biggest show. You really think they're going to stick him in a tent during a late night slot?
It's simple game of numbers. Kanye is far more popular than anyone who'd be playing late night Friday or Saturday. I think you're going to have to think outside of the box when it comes to his time slot...
I seriously question whether the dude's too big for the Which Stage...

i Read those. Personally, I just don't see any of those options panning out. The Chance of a double-headliner of Kanye/Jack is slim to none, (how weird would that be anyway?), and while I agree Which stage or What stage pre-headliner is the right time slot, the simple fact of the matter is that it is not dark at those times, so the show wouldn't work.

So explain to me how it worked out that Roo decided to put TREY ANASTASIO, a former headliner, in a tent late night, when NO WHICH STAGE SHOW was going on? That Tent was by far the most packed it has ever been for any late night show ever.
That move, to me, proved that they are willing to put big names in Tents, just like they did last year as well.
And WE KNOW they put hip hop shows in tents late night.

I wasn't really suggesting a double-headliner. I was suggesting a slight overlap, as was the case last year; which wouldn't be weird at all, especially considering that Jack Johnson and Kanye draw on very different fan bases.
